Job Summary

Plan, lay out and install rebar, mesh, embeds and anchor bolts in concrete forms using a variety of fasteners, rod‑bending machines, blow‑torches, and hand tools.

Key Responsibilities
  • Use appropriate hand tools and torch set to measure, cut, position, secure, assemble and install rebar, embeds and anchor bolts.
  • Construct built‑in‑place or prefabricated rebar mats, cages, or columns according to project specifications for concrete structures.
  • Erect built‑in‑place rebar or assemble and install prefabricated rebar; insert spreaders and tie‑rods between opposite pieces to maintain specific dimensions.
  • Anchor and brace rebar to fixed objects using tie wire, nails, bolts, anchor rods, steel cables, planks and timber.
  • Bend steel rods using hand tools and/or rod‑bending machines as outlined in project specifications and rebar templates.
  • Assist carpenters and concrete finishers with necessary tasks for the installation of concrete structures.
  • Participate in all safety‑related processes and programs as requested.
  • Engage with the work team to achieve zero injuries.
  • Watch for hazards and report any concerns to the supervisor or safety professional; use stop‑work authority if needed.
  • Report all accidents and near misses to the supervisor; participate in investigation process as needed.
  • Participate in all pre‑job work planning and safety discussions.
  • Identify safety hazards for yourself and others; take corrective actions to eliminate or mitigate hazards.
  • Understand and respond to all safety hazards and warning devices; support and follow lockout/tag‑out procedures.
  • Attend site‑specific training and follow all procedures outlined in training.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment using effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Perform quick mental math as required.
  • Coordinate work with other crafts and co‑workers; provide on‑the‑job training or mentoring to helpers and laborers.
  • Produce quality work meeting requirements of plans, specifications, and industry standards.
  • Read and understand plans and specifications; visualize two‑dimensional drawings in three dimensions.
  • Develop a complete understanding of contract plans and specifications for the portion of work assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
  • One or more of the following certifications: NCCER Concrete Finishing, NCCER Carpenter, NCCER Reinforcing Ironwork, NCCER Rigger, NCCER Scaffolding.
Minimum Qualifications
  • At least 4 years of experience working as a Rod Buster, Carpenter or a similar craft.
  • Strong working knowledge of civil/concrete crafts and erection of all types of concrete structures.
  • Working knowledge of auto‑level and transit for accurate layout and verification of finished grades.
  • Fabrication and placement of rebar with proper tying techniques.
  • Must have all necessary tools required for the role.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • All applicants must be able to complete pre‑employment onboarding requirements, which may include background checks, drug screens, and motor vehicle record searches.
Work Environment / Physical Demands
  • Lifting and carrying heavy items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Standing, kneeling, bending, stooping, and moving in and around confined and cluttered spaces.
  • Full range of motion and flexibility consistent with job duties.
  • Using hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls according to set procedures.
  • Repetitive movements.
  • Climbing and maintaining balance on steel framework, stairs, ladders, and scaffolds.
  • Work up to a 12‑hour shift in varying temperature extremes and other outside conditions.
  • Construction site environment with cramped work spaces and awkward positions.
  • Exposure to very hot (above 90°F) or very cold (below 32°F) temperatures, inclement weather, dust, wind, snow, rain, bright or inadequate lighting, and noisy conditions.
  • Work around hazardous equipment.
  • Position considered safety‑sensitive.
