Location: Abbeville

Perform general maintenance and repair of equipment and buildings requiring practical skill and knowledge (but not proficiency) in trades such as painting, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, electrical work, interior alterations, plastering, and general mechanical repair work. Assist with grounds upkeep and keeping facilities clean.

Responsibilities

Provide assistance in carpentry, electrical work, lighting, plumbing, heating and air conditioning, refrigeration, ventilation, plastering, painting, interior alterations, and general mechanical repair.

Duties include replacing electrical receptacles, wires, switches, fixtures, motors; patching minor holes and cracks with plaster or compound; repairing or replacing sinks, water coolers, and toilets; painting structures and equipment; repairing or replacing concrete floors, steps, and sidewalks; replacing damaged paneling, ceiling and floor tiles; hanging doors and installing locks; replacing broken window panels; performing general maintenance on buildings, equipment, and machinery.

Move furniture and equipment and load and unload suppliers.

Assist in ground upkeep and keeping facilities clean.

Operate forklift.

Deliver and/or pick up supplies as needed.

Assist with preparation and facilitation of college events and meetings.

Minimum Qualifications

Three years of experience in general maintenance and repair of equipment and buildings including carpentry, electrical work, lighting, plumbing, HVAC, refrigeration, ventilation, plastering, painting, interior alterations, and general mechanical repair.

High school diploma or equivalent.

Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.

Must be able to pass a physical examination.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of building techniques and common tools and equipment used in maintenance and repair of buildings, grounds keeping, and custodial work.

Effective oral and written communication.

Positive attitude.

Ability to work well under pressure.

Knowledge of OSHA regulations and state laws regarding accidents and losses of personnel or property.

Ability to understand and follow oral or written instructions.
