Plant Auxiliary – Alabama Power Company (Greene County)

Plant Auxiliaries are the lifeblood of our generating plants. This entry‑level position offers hands‑on experience and the opportunity to progress through specialist tracks. The role involves physically demanding tasks throughout the shift, including lifting and moving heavy equipment, working at heights, and operating plant tools and machinery. Candidates must be physically fit, able to work in confined spaces and temperature extremes, and available for rotating shifts with overtime and call‑outs.

This position assists in operating and maintaining Alabama Power generating plants.

Responsibilities include:

• Operating and maintaining electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic plant equipment.
• Performing routine maintenance tasks and troubleshooting equipment issues.
• Shifting between tasks in a dynamic work environment.
• Adhering to safety procedures and maintaining a safe work environment.
• Providing support during plant operations, including load dispatch and emergency shutdowns.

• 2+ years secondary education or a technical degree (industrial or technical majors) preferred.
• 1-2 years of manual labor, construction, maintenance, electrical work, or experience with heavy equipment preferred.
• Ability to work in confined spaces.
• Physical ability to bend, kneel, crawl, stoop, and stand for long periods; work in all temperature extremes.
• Operating all equipment and hand‑tools as needed.
• Knowledge of mechanics, electricity, shop machinery, welding, and piping work (experience preferred).
• Minimum age 18.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Must successfully pass the POSS and MASS tests.
• Rotating shifts, overtime, call‑outs, weekends, and holidays required.
• Live within one hour of the plant or willing to relocate within one hour; no relocation assistance available.

Starting pay is approximately $24.36 per hour with benefits and the opportunity for two raises per year based on performance.
