Meyer Utility Structures, an Arcosa subsidiary, is hiring a Lead Fitter/Welder for our plant in Steele, AL.

As a Lead Fitter/Welder, you’ll use jigs/holding fixtures to lay out pieces to be welded according to blueprints, layouts, schematics, or work orders. You’ll then use manual, semi‑automatic, or automatic welding equipment to join, surface, fabricate, and repair metal or other weldable materials. The role also includes inspecting completed work for conformance to specifications and performing minor equipment maintenance.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead a team of welders
  • Repair welds and perform complex repairs
  • Assist with task completion to meet deadlines
  • Apply appropriate welding processes according to layouts, work orders, blueprints, schematics, and sketches using manual, automatic, or semi‑automatic equipment
  • Weld clips and hardware; perform full‑penetration (e.g., slip joint) welds to connect ends to poles or channels
  • Operate grinding equipment
  • Train lower‑level welders as needed
  • Lay out and mark weld points on parts or sub‑assemblies; position pieces to be welded into jigs, holding fixtures, guides, and steps with measuring instruments and hand tools
  • Inspect completed work for conformance to specifications
  • Maintain quality, efficiency, safety standards, and required records
  • Perform other duties as assigned
What You’ll Need
  • Minimum of 4 years of welding experience
  • Flux Core welding experience
  • Certification to perform horizontal and vertical welds
  • Ability to perform multi‑pass welds and “C” (circumference) welds
  • Qualification as a flat welder
  • Ability to maintain a 90% pass rate on UT inspection
  • Basic understanding of Oxy‑Fuel/Plasma burning and Carbon Arcing
  • Good attendance record
