The 163rd Street Improvement Council empowers individuals and families including veterans, the formerly incarcerated, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and those with physical, cognitive, or developmental challenges by providing housing and connecting them to the resources, support, and opportunities needed to transition from homelessness to stable, healthy, and fulfilling lives.

History

Founded in 1966, the 163rd Street Improvement Council, Inc., wasestablishedto address the chronic, systemic lack of resources in the South Bronx. As pioneers in housing justice in the Bronx, we began by developing affordable housing for some of our most vulnerable Bronx residents.

Specific Requirements:

This is a full-time shift position scheduled between the hours of 9AM-5PM.
Staff may be asked to adjust their work schedule depending on the operational needs of the site. This is an on‑call position.

The Role:

Complete annual psychosocial. Evaluate crisis situations and apply appropriate interventions.

Assistin the detection of “at risk” clients and development of plans to prevent further psychological or physical deterioration.

Provide consultation, and brief intervention for psychological/psychiatric problems and/or disorders

Activelyparticipatein meetings that support the integrated health care model to provide comprehensive care for clients. FacilitateADL,and therapeutic groups.

Develops andmaintainsliaison relationships with community resources as able, specifically other behavioral health and substance abuse agencies

Work toestablishcollaborative services andto lessenduplication of care.

Participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of special projects and/or pilot programs

Maintaining thorough client files, documenting conversations, warnings, and progress reports while preserving the utmost confidentiality.

Reporting critical incidentsimmediatelyto the Site Director/Director of Social Services.

Participates in ongoing education and professional development through courses, seminars, and other in-service training in the areas of services for the homeless, cultural diversity training, supportive counseling, and workforce

Provides monthly service outcomes information and supporting documentation to Case Manager Supervisor for reporting purposes as required by funding agencies.

Performs all other duties as requested by managerial staff and other duties as required.

Essential Skills and

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in social work, social services or public administration preferred

3+ years of DHS social work experience.

Licenseisrequired.

Combined education and years of prior experience may be compensated for the bachelor’s degree.

Good writing skills are required. Some customer service and job readiness experience preferred.

Knowledge of at least one of the following service areas is required: homeless-related issues, criminal justice, HIV/AIDS, and substance abuse.

Prior training experience in the CARES database is helpful.

Knowledge of Microsoft Suite and Google Suite.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Providing emotional and mental health counseling to clients.

Building strong rapport with clients and makingaccurateassessments of their problems whether mental/emotional or physical in the case of substance abuse

Responsible for assessing clients and completing comprehensive psychological evaluations for the submission of clients housing packages

Keeping detailed and concise records of each client during the course oftheir treatment

Provide effective treatment planning andassistingclients in successfully achieving goals.
