Minimum Qualifications
  • Standard high‑school diploma or satisfactory completion of any GED testing program.
  • Minimum age of 21 years.
  • Valid Georgia CDL with PS endorsement.
  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record for the past three years.
  • Pre‑employment and annual physical exam by a licensed doctor of the district’s choice.
  • No addiction to alcohol or narcotic drugs.
  • Random drug testing and mandatory post‑accident drug testing.
  • Criminal background check required.
Goal

Transport students to and from assigned educational centers or designations, while controlling passenger behavior and maintaining safe operation of the assigned bus.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Contact dispatch as prescribed before and after each route.
  • Communicate with the department and schools effectively.
  • Maintain a positive attitude toward the job, fellow workers, school staff, students, and parents.
  • Drive designated route according to the stop schedule and transport students to and from school or trip designations.
  • Perform pre‑trip and post‑trip inspection of the bus as required by the department; return paperwork and keys promptly.
  • Fuel assigned bus as needed for the next route.
  • Perform necessary lifting up to 50 pounds and assist in bus evacuations.
  • Maintain a valid and appropriate license, as required for this position.
  • Submit all reports and timesheets in a timely manner.
  • Deliver bus to the Fleet Mechanic as directed for scheduled maintenance.
  • Report any damage to the interior or exterior to the Fleet Mechanic using appropriate documentation.
  • Follow work scheduling and attendance requirements in a regular, predictable, and punctual manner.
  • Operate the bus without receiving a traffic violation or warning citation from state or local enforcement.
  • Operate the bus without any preventable accidents.
  • Maintain external and internal cleanliness of the bus as required for safe and comfortable operation.
  • Monitor and operate communication devices for essential and emergency transmissions only.
  • Conduct emergency drills as required.
  • Report delays, accidents, and unusual situations to the Director of Facilities and Operations.
  • Maintain student discipline on the bus and refer serious infractions to the appropriate administrator using the Bus Referral Discipline Form.
  • Establish, maintain, and utilize seating assignments as prescribed.
  • Collect, maintain, and periodically update emergency information and be aware of students’ medical needs reported by the parent/guardian.
  • Present a professional appearance.
  • Have the ability to drive any make or model of bus in the fleet.
  • Operate wheelchair lift and secure the door on the lift during transport.
  • Perform necessary tie‑downs for wheelchairs and seat security devices for students.
  • Participate in training programs to increase skills and proficiency related to the assignment.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and material; adhere to the chain of command.
  • Follow federal and state laws, as well as Board policies.
  • Assist monitor wheelchair lift and secure the door on lift during transport, as needed.
  • Be alert and attentive at all times; cell phone use is prohibited except for emergency use.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Be regularly, predictably, and reliably at work.
  • Have constant and consistent ability to supervise students.
