Part-Time Bus Driver​/Operator

Summary

Safely drive/operate a 12-52 van or passenger bus on campus and to locations off‑campus and/or out‑of‑town trips on a regular schedule or as assigned.

• Perform daily inspections as required.
• Fill gas, diesel, oil and charge when needed.
• Promptly report maintenance issues.
• Assist passengers with physical deficits on and off of vehicle, ensuring safe transportation.
• Keep record of passenger numbers and/or log‑book as required.
• Perform all other duties assigned by the supervisor and or designated dispatcher.
• Complete all pre and post‑trip inspections.
• Enforce federal, state and University guidelines for bus riders.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Two (2) years of experience in driving a bus is required.
• Clean Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a passenger and air brake endorsements is required.
• Previous or current public transportation or experience with large passenger vehicles is preferred.
• Must be able to work various shift, including weekends and out of town travel.

• Knowledge of highway regulations
• Knowledge of how to deal with patrons.
• Knowledge of how to deal with individuals with special needs.
• Knowledge of scheduling system and procedures
• Knowledge of record keeping system
• Knowledge of equipment cleaning standards and procedures
• Ability to provide a safe, clean, and comfortable transportation for students.
• Ability to maintain a commitment to the safety of the students, drivers, motorists, cyclists, pedestrians.
• Skill in driving/operating both combustion/diesel engine and electric buses/Electric Vehicles

• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Records maintenance skills.
• Ability to understand and follow safety procedures.
• Knowledge of basic vehicle inspection and maintenance including tire pressure, checking oil and water levels.
• Ability to safely and efficiently operate a loaded passenger bus.

• Must pass a pre‑employment criminal background check/ drug test.
• Possession of a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a Passenger and Air Brake Endorsement and DOT Physical Certificate is a requirement for this job.
• As a CDL driver, the employee will be required to comply with all provisions of DOT Regulation including random drug and alcohol testing.
