Fire Inspector

Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm

Range: $26.09 - $36.09 per hour

The purpose of this position is to assist in fire prevention activities to safeguard public safety, health, and general welfare. General duties include conducting fire prevention inspections; examines buildings to detect hazardous conditions or violations of fire laws, codes, ordinances, regulations, and standards; issues notices for corrections; conducts re-inspections as needed. Reviews plans and specifications for proposed construction and remodeling plans to ensure compliance with state and local fire and building code requirements.

Inspects and/or test fire protection and/or fire detections systems to verify that systems are installed in accordance with laws, codes, ordinances, regulations, and standards.

• Strongly Recommended: NFPA 1031 Fire Inspector I, or NFPA 1030 Fire Inspector.
• Minimum age 18.
• High school diploma or G.E.D. Certification.
• Must be able to successfully complete a Class-A physical, drug screen, background check, must not have been convicted of felony or misdemeanor involving domestic violence, weapons, or a crime of moral turpitude.
• Must possess a valid Alabama Driver’s License.
• Position requires essential functions to include frequent standing, walking, reaching, talking, climbing, stooping, kneeling and crawling. Lifting up to and in excess of 100 pounds and outside weather elements.
