Fire Inspector
Monday - Friday 8:00 am- 4:30 pm
Range: $26.09 - $36.09 per hour
The purpose of this position is to assist in fire prevention activities to safeguard public safety, health, and general welfare. General duties include conducting fire prevention inspections; examining buildings to detect hazardous conditions or violations of fire laws, codes, ordinances, regulations, and standards; issuing notices for corrections; conducting re‑inspections as needed; reviewing plans and specifications for proposed construction and remodeling plans to ensure compliance with state and local fire and building code requirements;
inspecting and/or testing fire protection and/or fire detection systems to verify that systems are installed in accordance with laws, codes, ordinances, regulations, and standards.
- Strongly Recommended: NFPA 1031 Fire Inspector I, or NFPA 1030 Fire Inspector.
- Minimum age 18.
- High school diploma or G.E.D. certification.
- Must be able to successfully complete a Class‑A physical, drug screen, background check, and must not have been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor involving domestic violence, weapons, or a crime of moral turpitude.
- Must possess a valid Alabama Driver’s License.
- Position requires frequent standing, walking, reaching, talking, climbing, stooping, kneeling and crawling; lifting up to and in excess of 100 pounds, including outside weather elements.
