Position: Senior Accountant (Woodstock)

About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Senior Finance Manager, the Senior Accountant will play a key role in supporting both corporate and operational accounting functions. This is a highly visible, hands‑on position suited for an experienced accounting professional who enjoys improving processes, creating structure, and contributing to organizational success.

Position Summary

The Senior Accountant is responsible for overseeing day‑to‑day accounting operations, managing month‑end and year‑end activities, preparing financial reports, administering payroll, and supporting continuous process improvements across the finance function. This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by enhancing controls, improving reporting processes, and helping drive operational efficiencies.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Corporate Accounting

  • Manage full‑cycle accounting activities, including general ledger maintenance, account reconciliations, and month‑end close processes.
  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Lead month‑end and year‑end close activities, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Prepare journal entries, accruals, and account analyses.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
  • Assist with cash flow management and financial reporting requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, company policies, and regulatory requirements.

Operational Accounting

  • Support daily accounting operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general accounting functions.
  • Monitor financial transactions and ensure accurate recording within accounting systems.
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies and variances.
  • Assist in maintaining financial records and supporting documentation.

Payroll Administration

  • Administer payroll and ensure payroll is processed accurately and on schedule.
  • Maintain payroll records and support compliance with applicable legislation and remittance requirements.

Process Improvement & Internal Controls

  • Evaluate existing accounting processes and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop and implement enhanced financial controls and procedures.
  • Create efficiencies within accounting workflows and reporting processes.
  • Support documentation of accounting policies and procedures.
  • Participate in system enhancements and process optimization initiatives.

Audit & Compliance

  • Assist with year‑end audit preparation and external accountant requests.
  • Prepare supporting schedules, reconciliations, and working papers.
  • Support government filings, remittances, and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Maintain strong internal controls and financial governance practices.

Collaboration & Business Support

  • Partner with operational leaders to provide financial insights and support decision‑making.
  • Prepare ad hoc reports and analyses as required.
  • Contribute to a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
Qualifications

Education & Credentials

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • CPA designation is considered an asset.

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Strong corporate accounting experience is required.
  • Experience with in construction, residential development, land development, or project‑based environments is an asset but not required.

Technical Skills

  • Strong knowledge of full‑cycle accounting principles.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Experience using Quick Books is required.
Compensation & Benefits
  • Competitive salary of $75,000 - $85,000, with flexibility for candidates bringing relevant construction or development industry experience.
