Job Description & How to Apply Below
Position: Staff Electrolyte Scientist

Anthro Energy is developing advanced electrolytes to enable safer, higher‑performance lithium‑ion batteries. We are seeking a Staff Electrolyte Scientist to lead electrolyte innovation for advanced cell chemistries, including high‑Ni, high‑voltage NCM, and silicon‑dominant anodes.

This is a highly impactful role for a technical leader who can define electrolyte strategy, solve critical interfacial challenges, and translate novel formulations into commercially‑viable battery systems. You will operate at the forefront of electrolyte science, driving programs from first‑principles design through validation in full cells and integration into commercial development.

Key Responsibilities
  • Own the electrolyte formulation strategy for advanced lithium‑ion systems, with a focus on high‑energy‑density and high‑voltage chemistries.
  • Design and develop state‑of‑the‑art electrolyte systems, including advanced additive packages and next‑generation formulations tailored for Si‑rich anodes and high‑Ni cathodes.
  • Solve complex interfacial challenges (SEI/CEI stability, gas evolution, impedance growth, transition metal dissolution) under aggressive operating conditions (high voltage, fast charge, lean electrolyte) to enable long cycle life, fast charging, and robust safety performance.
  • Drive deep mechanistic understanding through combined electrochemical and advanced analytical approaches, linking molecular design to cell‑level behavior.
  • Partner closely with cell engineering and materials teams to co‑optimize electrolyte, electrode, and cell design.
  • Lead electrolyte work streams in commercial programs, ensuring alignment with customer requirements and manufacturability constraints.
  • Set technical direction, define experimental frameworks, and elevate data quality and rigor across electrolyte development efforts.
  • Contribute to IP generation and technical differentiation, shaping Anthro’s long‑term technology roadmap.
Required Qualifications
  • PhD (5+ years) or MS (10+ years) in Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field with an exceptional industry track record.
  • Demonstrated success developing electrolytes for high‑Ni cathodes, high‑voltage systems, and/or silicon‑based anodes.
  • Deep expertise in electrolyte formulation design, including salt systems, solvent systems, and advanced additive engineering.
  • Proven ability to connect interfacial chemistry to cell performance, including diagnosing and resolving degradation mechanisms.
  • Strong hands‑on experience with electrochemical testing and advanced characterization techniques (e.g., NMR, GC‑MS, ICP, XPS, SEM).
  • Excellent verbal, written communication and presentation skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex scientific concepts and deliver structured, impactful messages to cross‑functional and leadership audiences.
  • Deep data analysis capability, with a proven ability to interpret complex datasets and drive clear, data‑informed technical decisions.
  • Ability to operate independently while collaborating and influencing cross‑functional teams in a fast‑paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Direct experience bringing electrolyte formulations from concept → pilot → production scale.
  • Expertise in cutting‑edge electrolyte approaches, such as fluorinated systems, or novel additive chemistries.
  • Strong understanding of cost‑performance tradeoffs and supply‑chain considerations for electrolyte systems.
  • Prior experience working with large‑scale commercial battery programs.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership, including mentoring scientists and influencing R&D direction.
Benefits
  • Competitive salary and equity compensation commensurate with experience. Expected salary range is $136,000 to $170,000.
  • 15 vacation days, 10+ holidays, sick time off.
  • Full medical, dental, and vision coverage for team members, 60% coverage for dependents.
  • 401(k) with match.
  • Paid parental leave with flexible return‑to‑work policy.
  • Diverse and inclusive work environment.
