About Us
Epia Neuro is a neural technology company developing intent-driven systems designed to restore function and independence for people living with neurological conditions. Its platform integrates implantable neural interfaces, adaptive algorithms, and assistive devices to translate neural intent into real-world action. The company’s initial focus is stroke-related motor impairment, with expansion in cognitive decline and other neurological disorders, focusing on long-term solutions for the growing aging population.
The RoleWe’re looking for a Mechatronics Engineer I who wants to bring technical expertise, curiosity, and initiative to support the development of wearable robotic systems.
Responsibilities- Supporting the development of the wearable robotic system from prototype to production readiness.
- Collaborating with Mechanical, Systems, and Controls Technical Leads to assist with design, development, and prototyping of the actuation system.
- Developing and executing validation tests for actuator, sensor, and system-level performance including test fixture design.
This role is based out of our Alameda Headquarters, and expected to work on site from our Alameda Headquarters 5 days a week.
How We Work- We are intentional. We prioritize and are thoughtful about how we use others’ time.
- We care for others. We prioritize safety both for patients and one another.
- We own outcomes, not just tasks. Our work demands the highest standards because it impacts real patients and real lives.
- Humility is a strength. We are honest about what we know and what we don’t know. Getting it right matters more than being right.
- Develop and execute benchtop and system-level tests to characterize actuator and sensor performance and validate open-loop and closed-loop control strategies.
- Troubleshoot and resolve integration issues across mechanical, electrical, and software systems.
- Build, iterate, and validate electromechanical prototype assemblies, including actuator systems and sensor-integrated hardware.
- Design wiring harnesses, cable management solutions, and test fixtures for complex electromechanical systems.
- Collaborate closely with senior mechanical, electrical, firmware, and controls engineers to ensure seamless hardware integration and support the transition from prototype systems to scalable architectures.
- Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical. - 1-3 years of experience in robotics, mechatronics, or complex electromechanical systems.
- Experience designing and validating systems with a strong focus on testing and validation.
- Strong debugging skills using lab instrumentation (multimeter, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, power analyzers).
- Expertise with Linux environments, command-line tools, and Python programming.
- Familiarity with sensors such as IMUs, encoders, load cells, and force/torque sensors.
- Hands-on experience with embedded firmware development for microcontrollers.
- Master’s degree in Robotics or Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience with rapid prototyping methods like 3d printing.
- Experience with CAD tools such as SOLIDWORKS.
- Experience implementing or debugging torque, position, or impedance control loops.
- Familiarity with communication protocols such as SPI, I2C, UART, or CAN.
- Ability to work hands-on in a lab environment, including assembling and testing electromechanical systems, standing for extended periods, and occasionally lifting or moving hardware prototypes (up to ~25 lbs).
- $95,000 - $115,000
- Competitive base salary with equity.
- 100% of healthcare coverage for you and your dependents.
- Generous vacation policy.
- Paid parental leave.
- Work from our beautiful waterfront office in Alameda, CA, with access to collaborative spaces and labs.
