Senior Mechanical Engineer

We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the design, analysis, and delivery of mechanical building systems with a focus on commercial HVAC projects. The role combines technical leadership, hands-on modeling and documentation, interdisciplinary coordination, and client-facing responsibilities to ensure safe, efficient, and code-compliant systems for commercial and institutional projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical system design for HVAC across project phases from concept through construction administration.
  • Develop detailed calculations, load analyses, equipment selection, and system layouts using Trace 700 and other modeling tools.
  • Prepare and review mechanical drawings, specifications, and schedules using AutoCAD and Revit; maintain model integrity in a BIM environment.
  • Coordinate closely with architects, structural engineers, electrical engineers, and other stakeholders to resolve clashes and integrate systems within the BIM workflow.
  • Perform energy analyses and recommend sustainable, cost-effective solutions that comply with ASHRAE, local codes, and client requirements.
  • Provide construction administration support including responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals, and performing site visits to ensure design intent is achieved.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers and designers; lead design reviews and quality control checks.
  • Manage project schedules, budgets, and deliverables; communicate progress and technical issues to project managers and clients.
  • Develop and maintain client relationships and contribute to proposal development and technical scopes of work.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering;
    Masters degree preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred; EIT or equivalent for early-career hires considered if accompanied by significant project experience.
  • Minimum 7-10 years of mechanical design experience with demonstrated leadership on medium to large commercial or institutional projects.
  • Proven expertise in HVAC and plumbing system design, load calculations, equipment selection, and energy analysis.
  • Hands-on experience with Trace 700 for HVAC simulation and energy modeling.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and working within a BIM coordination process.
  • Strong knowledge of building codes and standards (ASHRAE, ICC, NFPA) and practical application in design and construction.
  • Excellent technical writing, communication, and client-facing skills; ability to present design concepts clearly.
  • Experience with construction administration, field coordination, and resolving contractor issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor junior staff, manage project priorities, and deliver high-quality work on schedule.
