Position Summary
The Welder is responsible for fabricating and assembling components through welding and related metalwork. This role involves working both in the plant and outdoors in various weather conditions, using a range of welding and fabrication equipment. The Welder ensures all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company standards, engineering drawings, and applicable codes.
Responsibilities- Become a certified welder, certified by the Canadian Welding Bureau for Qualification W47.1 and W186.
- Read shop drawings, bending schedules, welding signs and symbols.
- Safely set‑up, operate and maintain welding equipment and machines.
- Read work orders or follow oral instructions to ascertain materials and/or containers to be moved.
- Position and clamp work pieces together or assemble them in jigs or fixtures.
- Fit and weld components together as per drawings in vertical, horizontal and flat positions.
- Load, unload and move materials within or near plant, yard, or worksite.
- Inspect the forklift prior to operating, including all fluid groups, update logbook, notify supervisor or maintenance of any problems.
- Perform proper shut down of the forklift when cleaning or inspecting.
- Count, weigh, and record the number of units of materials moved or handled on daily production sheets.
- Attach identifying tags or labels to material or mark information on cases, skids, or other containers.
- Stack or assemble material into bundles and band bundles together.
- Operate band saw, metal punching, shearing and spray paint equipment and/or have prior experience.
- Adhere to the company’s safety policies and procedures.
- Know reinforcing bar (rebar) sizes.
- Know metric/imperial measurements.
- Perform all other duties as required.
- Must have completed a welding course.
- Canadian Welding Bureau certification is an asset (Qualification W47.1 and W186).
- Completion of a high school diploma.
- Certified crane or forklift training is an asset.
- May require working in hot (32°C) and cold (-25°C) temperatures.
- May require walking on terrain that may be uneven, muddy, and slippery.
- Exposure to dust, cement powder, water mist or vapor.
- Regularly required to stand for extended periods, lift, climb, push‑pull, kneel, crouch, twist, bend, and stoop.
- Must be able to lift up to 50lbs frequently.
- 8 hours a day, Monday to Friday. Working hours are subject to change based on business needs.
- Must be available to work weekends as required by the business needs.
- Must have a willingness to work overtime as required.
Starting rate: $30.12 per hour with increases. As a member of the OSCO Construction Group, Pre Con offers a comprehensive compensation package that includes seniority with Unifor union local 636 upon successful completion of probation, competitive wages, paid overtime and company benefits.
