Temporary Skilled Labourer - Public Works; Woodstock

Job Overview

The City of Woodstock seeks a Temporary Skilled Labourer for its Public Works Department. This full‑time temporary position, maximum six months, is open to a unionized applicant pool.

Reporting to:
Public Works Supervisor / Assistant Supervisor.

Hours:

Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. or 3:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Salary: $30.72 per hour per Schedule “A”.

• Perform various manual labour duties, including concrete work, assisting the Vactor truck operator with flushing and cleaning catch basins, working on the sewer crew, repairing manholes and catch basins, clearing debris from roadways, applying cold patch to roads and reporting completed work to the Supervisor.
• Primarily execute duties of a Waste Collection vehicle operator.
• Work at the Enviro Depot.
• Perform winter control maintenance duties such as road plowing and sidewalk plowing.
• Set up traffic control measures and fix or replace traffic signs.
• Assist mechanics as needed; paint and clean equipment; wash, fuel, and complete general equipment maintenance.
• Perform annual sewer inspections and other duties as assigned.

• Must be able to work in all weather conditions.
• Class DZ Ontario Driver’s License in positive standing.
• Must have or be willing to obtain Standard First Aid and CPR training.
• Must be able to attend mandatory Orientation Training.
• Minimum a Grade 10 or equivalent.

• Experience operating a wide variety of heavy equipment.
• Training with MTO Book 7 for Temporary Conditions and proven knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and other applicable legislation.

• All weather working conditions with exposure to dust, dirt, and heavy lifting.
• Shift work and overtime as required.
