The City of Alameda, Public Works Department is seeking to fill one (1) vacancy for Pump Station Assistant (Maintenance Worker II)

Under general supervision, performs a variety of journey level skilled or semi-skilled trade work involved in the construction, installation, operations, maintenance and repair of public streets, buildings, structures, facilities, systems, equipment and grounds. Performs other related work as required.

Distinguishing Features

This is the journey level class in the Maintenance Worker series. Positions in this class perform highly responsible maintenance work and may be responsible for the independent performance of particularly difficult or specialized maintenance work and/or for providing lead direction to subordinate employees. Work in the class is distinguished from that of lower classes by the greater independence with which an incumbent is expected to operate and by the more technical aspects or overall complexity of the work.

Incumbents are able to perform the full range of duties assigned with only occasional instructions or assistance as unusual or unique situations arise and are fully aware of operating policies and procedures. Assignment specialties may include carpentry, plumbing, concrete work, or street, sewer, waste and storm water systems, electrical, or tree and landscape maintenance work. Actual responsibilities will vary according to assignment.

Work may be performed under supervision, independently or with the assistance of helpers.

Essential Duties
  • Performs journey-level skilled or semi-skilled construction, maintenance and repair work; may perform general construction and street maintenance repair work.
  • Operates and maintains construction and maintenance equipment for a variety of construction and maintenance operations involving public facilities, streets, sidewalks, gutters, and waste and storm water systems; operates and maintains a variety of other equipment and tools including compressors or pneumatic tools.
  • Installs signs, traffic cones and barricades.
  • Performs rough and finished carpentry.
