Position SummaryThe Head Athletic Trainer (ATC) is responsible for the overall health, injury prevention, treatment, and physical readiness of players on the team. The ATC reports to the General Manager and works closely with the head coach, strength staff, and medical professionals to keep athletes match‑fit throughout the season.
Position ResponsibilitiesEssential responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Performs as Certified Athletic Trainer in managing the health care of players. Health care includes, but is not limited to first aid / emergency care, on‑site injury evaluation, application of appropriate modalities, developing rehabilitation and prevention programs, as well as conducting rehabilitation and making medical referrals
- Performs assessments, drives monitoring, and provides thorough care for athletic injuries
- Coordinates rehabilitation programming design and implementation with the Team Physician and performance staff
- Collaborates with performance staff on communication to the Head Coach and the coaching staff as it relates to the injuries and illnesses of the players
- Oversees the assistant athletic trainer in their performance of athletic and sports medicine services with Roots, Project 51O and Soul (while at amateur level)
- Prepares athletes for trainings and games, applies taping, special padding and bracing techniques
- Handles treatment scheduling, oversees medical records, maintains/updates rehabilitation progress reports and reports injuries to the Team Physician and Director of Performance
- Initiates injury documentation by completing the first report, Workers Compensation forms and process when required and assists the Senior Manager of Soccer Operations or other administrator with claim management when necessary
- Be accessible and flexible in facilitating care for athletes all‑day every day, including those not present with the team
- Responsible for maintaining athletic training facilities and inventory of equipment and supplies
- Responsible for the health and safety of players and staff while traveling
- Attends all team‑related activities, including travel to all matches
- Perform other duties as assigned or required
- Must have effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Physical effort required for practice/game preparation and positioning athletes body during emergency care, management and rehabilitation
- Experience working with high level professional athletes (preferred)
- Experience working within a soccer environment and understanding of typical soccer related injuries (Preferred but not necessary)
