Position: Home Educator/Family Develop Worker
Job Description
Position Summary:
This position is responsible for conducting weekly home visits and participating in bi‑weekly socializations. During home visits and socializations staff observe the parent interaction with the child, assist in addressing problems in the home, and provide appropriate referrals for needed services. This position also provides families with comprehensive family development and adult education services through the development and implementation of an individualized service delivery plan.
The provision of all services focuses on promoting the educational and economic success of the parents, which in turn promotes the child’s overall growth and development.
Working Conditions
- Work may involve unusual and extended working hours, including evenings and weekends; flexible schedule required.
- Work inside, outside of facilities, in families’ homes, and in various weather conditions.
- Possible exposure to childhood illnesses.
- Must be able to handle multiple tasks.
Job Function
Schedule appointments with participants for home visits.Provide families with comprehensive case management and family development services that include in‑home visits, advocacy, transportation and referral services.Assess families’ needs based on enrollment information and intake interview; develop an individual family service plan to address identified needs and focus on family strengths.Assist families in developing goals and objectives, and set systems to track accomplishment of those goals.Monitor, evaluate and modify families’ service delivery plan on a regularly scheduled basis.Ensure families receive needed services from childcare and support staff or outside agencies and individuals; serve as advocate or broker to link families to community resources and services.Recruit program participants, comply with data requirements, and conduct intakes as needed.Make required contacts with each family and maintain accurate and timely documentation and narrative reports in families’ folders.Participate in meetings and briefings, contribute to the team, and participate in scheduled client staffing, present cases for review, and engage in program recruitment and enrollment efforts.Communicate with appropriate staff on assigned cases to solicit input and direction regarding levels and types of services needed or being provided.Assist in providing program overview to parents, parent committee/policy council members, and other visitors as assigned; facilitate monthly parent meetings.Familiarize with performance standards and all aspects of the program.Research community resources for additional service opportunities for parents.Access community resources and services for participants.Assist participants by providing information and available resources.Advocate on behalf of families and follow up on referrals.Ensure developmental screenings/assessments are implemented timely in accordance with framework.Attend trainings mandated by Early Head Start to remain in compliance with performance standards.Become familiar with research‑based curriculum in place for children and pregnant women.Work with mental health specialists to address behavior issues.Perform other duties as assigned.Qualifications
Education Required: Minimum of an associate’s degree in early childhood education and/or CDAP.
Education Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in social work, education, or related field; candidates with three years of college in a related field and two years of related work experience will be considered.
Experience:
- Experience working with infants and toddlers.
- Experience as community liaison in a human services agency.
Must pass background check, physical, and drug screen.
Location:
RGV site, Alamo, Texas.
