Experience

Required:

Two to three (2-3) years of increasingly responsible clerical accounting experience.

Job Summary

Perform a variety of basic clerical accounting duties including accounts payable, payroll, general ledger, and budget; generate reports; and perform related clerical tasks for the finance department.

Essential Job Functions
  • Perform accounting and clerical functions to support the finance department.
  • Receive training in clerical accounting methods, techniques, and equipment usage.
  • Enter accounting transactions on a computer accounting system.
  • Run computer-generated reports; research and prepare reports; audit for accuracy.
  • Assist other departments and employees by providing fiscal information and answering questions.
  • Assist department head with grant tracking and reimbursement.
  • Perform general clerical duties such as typing, records maintenance, and related tasks.
  • Answer the telephone and take messages for department staff.
  • Work on various special projects as assigned.
  • Organize and file grant receipts.
  • Deposit checks for County.
  • Compile financial information for all open and active grants to create and submit obligation notices, payment requests, and monthly reports to the proper agencies or departments.
  • Update the CPMS website to reflect the status of all active grants.
  • Perform account reconciliation and reconcile month‑end balances.
  • Generate monthly YTD budget reports for various departments.
  • Review travel requests, track travel advances, and calculate reimbursements.
  • Perform other duties as required.

  • Basic clerical accounting principles and procedures.
  • Accounts payable principles and techniques.
  • Payroll principles and techniques.
  • General ledger and budget principles and techniques.
  • Financial record keeping and reporting principles and procedures.
  • Modern office procedures, methods, and computer equipment.
  • Basic arithmetic principles.
  • Thorough understanding of the County’s functions, policies, and procedures.

Skills

  • Strong written and oral communication and relational skills.
  • Public relations and customer service skills.
  • Ability to follow and relay complex oral and written instructions, policies, and procedures.
  • Basic math skills for budget and other financial calculations.
  • Proficiency with office equipment, including computer terminals, related software programs, printers, calculators, fax machines, and copiers.

  • Maintain records and files.
  • Research data and generate a variety of reports.

Physical Demands

The following physical abilities are required:

  • Light work, requiring exertion of up to 25 pounds of force occasionally, and/or moving objects up to 25 pounds.
  • Regular verbal communication during duties.
  • Frequent use of hands, fingers, and arms for handling or reaching.
  • Occasional standing and walking.
  • Vision abilities: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.

Noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
