Position: ACE Instructor & Academic Coach (Part-time) Medical Assistant Program
** Compensation:**$25.75 per hour    This position is 10–20 hours per week, with evening hours varying between 4:30–8:30 p.m., Monday–Friday.

* * Position Summary
** The Part-Time Adult Education IET Instructor supports adult learners in an integrated education and training (IET) model in collaboration with a medical assistant content expert. The instructor provides academic instruction in reading, writing, and math, including high school equivalency preparation, to support student success in the medical assistant program.

MAJOR DUTIES
* Instruct adult education courses in all academic areas such as reading, writing, science, social studies, math, and English language development.
* Use teaching strategies that yield significant positive outcomes.
* Integrate experiential learning and practical applications for a deep understanding.
* Design courses in alignment with adult brain functionality, based on neuroscience principles.
* Incorporate techniques that maximize memory, attention, and cognitive load management.
* Recognize and respond to signs of trauma in adult learners, understanding its potential impact on learning.
* Foster a safe and supportive classroom atmosphere, ensuring that students feel respected, acknowledged, and understood.
* Implement teaching strategies and classroom management techniques that minimize potential triggers.
* Provide resources or referrals for students in need of further emotional or psychological support.
* Prepare lessons with neuroscience principles, workforce relevance, and trauma-informed considerations in mind.
* Teach skills vital for the modern workforce, including both hard and soft skills.
* Liaise with local industries to tailor curriculum according to job demands.
* Guide students in resume building, interview techniques, and job placement.
* Evaluate learners' educational needs, goals, and career aspirations.
* Create learning plans that also consider each student's emotional and psychological well-being.
* Deliver content across varied subjects, relating academic knowledge to real-world applications, while ensuring a trauma-aware classroom setting.
* Provide targeted academic and emotional support to students.
* Monitor and proactively support students, anticipating both academic and emotional challenges.
* Monitor students' progress, offering feedback that's sensitive to their cognitive and emotional states.
* Cultivate a trauma-informed classroom that upholds safety, respect, and inclusivity.
* Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
* Knowledge of adult education principles and practices.
* Knowledge of the characteristics of adult learners.
* Knowledge of effective teaching strategies and andragogy.
* Knowledge of available community resources.
* Knowledge of state, federal, and publishers testing policies and standards.
* Knowledge of federal, state and institutional reporting requirements.
* Knowledge of college policies and procedures.
* Knowledge of testing principles.
* Skill in the provision of advisement and coaching to adult education students.
* Skill in the operation of computers and job-related software programs.
* Skill in decision making and problem solving.
* Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public.
* Skill in oral and written communication.
* Skill in working effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS The Director assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.

GUIDELINES Guidelines include New Mexico Higher Education Department guidelines, National Reporting System guidelines, Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act standards, test publishers’ guidelines, and college and program policies and procedures. These guidelines require are generally clear and specific, but may require some interpretation in application.
