Safety Engineer I and II - Civil | Mortenson
Mortenson is seeking a Safety Engineer to implement Mortenson’s Zero Injury Safety program at a project site and ensure a safe work environment for team members, subcontractors, and visitors to the construction site. This role offers opportunities at both Level I and Level II; compensation is determined based on experience and location. Visa sponsorship is not offered for these positions.
Responsibilities- Implement and administer safety program at each worksite, assist in developing site-specific safety activities, and conduct safety orientation/training.
- Document and track safety violations, conduct safety audits, analyze safety data, assist with major incident analysis, and manage OSHA reporting.
- Review safety submittals, monitor trade partner work plans, assist with onsite injury management, organize safety celebrations, and participate in project planning/hazard analysis.
- Provide safety-related information, evaluate industrial hygiene concerns, maintain knowledge of safety standards/regulations, serve as safety resource, and attend/chair safety meetings.
- Collaborate with client safety personnel, union representatives, and insurance risk engineers; accompany safety/health/OSHA personnel on tours; ensure maintenance of safety equipment; manage PPE and safety budget.
- Build effective relationships with diverse backgrounds and organizational levels.
- Bachelor’s or associate’s degree in occupational safety, health, or related field preferred; OR a high school diploma with CHST or STS certification, OSHA 30 Hour training, and minimum five years of construction experience.
- Previous related internship experience is a plus.
- Current driver’s license; detail-oriented with ability to organize and manage multiple project tasks.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and safety-related software programs; positive, professional attitude and strong customer service skills.
- Ability to interpret and communicate company policies; strong teamwork, initiative, communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
- Effective public speaking and presentation skills; effective communication and active listening skills; openness to diverse input and feedback; ability to travel up to 100%.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
as above. Base pay range: $76,800 – $96,000. - Safety Engineer II —
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
One year of related experience. Base pay range: $79,800 – $107,700.
Note:
Base pay ranges vary by office location (Denver, CO; Chicago, IL – 5%; Seattle, WA; Portland, OR – 10%; Washington, DC – 12.5%). This position is eligible for Mortenson’s incentive plan.
