Additive Manufacturing Postdoctoral Appointee, Onsite
Sandia National Laboratories is a leading national security and technology innovation lab. We seek a Postdoctoral Appointee to conduct experimental research and technology development in aerosol jet direct-write printing and other advanced manufacturing processes. The aim is to develop new manufacturing technologies for custom components with national security impact.
What Your Job Will Be LikeOn a given day you may be called upon to:
- Apply existing knowledge and gain new knowledge toward advanced manufacturing of microelectronic systems.
- Conduct research and publish results.
- Work collaboratively and contribute knowledge to the team.
- Interact with other scientists and engineers to solve technical problems.
- Work onsite (required).
- Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or a relevant science/engineering field conferred within five (5) years prior to employment.
- Research experience in additive manufacturing.
- Ability to acquire and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance.
- Experience with electrical properties testing (e.g., probe station, network analyzer).
- Experience with mechanical properties testing (e.g., profilometer, mechanical adhesion test).
- Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team.
- Technical background and passion to learn and share knowledge.
- Flexibility to changing tasks and projects.
- Problem-solving skills to develop creative technical solutions.
- Dedication to laboratory safety.
The III-V Optoelectronics Department develops compound semiconductor and RF devices, photonics, and microsystems for national security applications. Additive manufacturing of sensors and systems plays a key role in our research. The team is part of Sandia’s Microsystems Science, Technology and Components Center, focusing on R&D of high-performance technology platforms and customized microsystems.
Security ClearanceApplicants must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, requiring U.S. citizenship. A background investigation will be conducted. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification, criminal activity, or other indicators of untrustworthiness may result in denial or termination of clearance.

Position InformationThis is a temporary postdoctoral position for up to one year, renewable up to five additional years at Sandia’s discretion. The holder may bid on regular Sandia positions and may be converted to a regular career position during the term if warranted.
