Supermarket Stock Clerk

REPORTS TO: Assistant Manager and Manager

FLSA STATUS: Hourly, non-exempt;
Full- or part-time

TYPICAL WORK SCHEDULE (DAYS/HRS PER WEEK): Any of the 5 days from Sunday through Saturday with work start times as early as 6 a.m. and as late as 12 noon

JOB PURPOSE: Stock all grocery items, including liquor, frozen foods, and dairy products, and provide customer service

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Unpacks cartons and crates of merchandise, checks invoice against items received;
  May be required to compute gross margins on product in supervisor’s absence
• Assists with conducting inventory and ordering merchandise
• Sets up advertising signs and prices merchandise
• Stocks shelves with new or transferred merchandise
• Cleans display cases, shelves, and aisles
• May perform other duties as assigned
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to handle a variety of customer requests and personalities;
  Must be people oriented
• Basic math skills

REQUIRED EDUCATION OR COMBINATION OF

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• Must be at least 16 years old
• If still in high school, must maintain average passing grades
• No experience required; willing to train

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• Grocery store setting;
  Shift work;
  Required to work weekends and holidays
• Standing/Walking/Bending, 100%;
  May stand or walk up to 4 hours at a time
• Lifting and carrying up to 100 lbs. with help or uses dolly as needed
• May have to work in walk-in refrigerator for extended periods
• Exposure to cleaning chemicals and cold temperatures
• Must follow safety precautions and requirements
