Job Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe New Mexico Climate Center requires a Mesonet Weather Station Technician to maintain high‑quality weather stations in the Zia Met statewide network.
Responsibilities include:
- Perform maintenance and data collection for Zia Met weather station towers across New Mexico.
- Work independently and as part of a team to support the network.
- Travel to various sites within the state as required.
- Report to the Zia Met Director for supervision and mentoring.
- Carry out any related duties as assigned.
Required
Education and Experience:
Associate’s Degree + 2 years of relevant experience or a Bachelor's degree.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with electronics and wiring.
- Ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions.
- Capability to work independently and in a team setting.
- Willingness to travel to multiple locations in New Mexico.
- Ability to operate power equipment used to maintain site vegetation.
- Effective communication skills.
Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to travel around New Mexico.
Working Conditions and Physical EffortEnvironment: Moderate exposure to extreme temperatures, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and loud noises.
Physical Effort: Moderate physical activity. Heavy lifting, pushing or pulling of objects up to 50 pounds required.
Risk: Exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations requiring extensive safety precautions and protective equipment.
