Position Details

Title: Mesonet Weather Station Technician

Location: NMSU satellite location (Ag Science Center, Farmington, NM)

Salary: $21.11 per hour

Schedule: Standard (M-F 8-5)

Job Duties and Responsibilities

The New Mexico Climate Center requires a Mesonet Weather Station Technician to maintain high‑quality weather stations in the Zia Met statewide network.

Responsibilities include:

  • Perform maintenance and data collection for Zia Met weather station towers across New Mexico.
  • Work independently and as part of a team to support the network.
  • Travel to various sites within the state as required.
  • Report to the Zia Met Director for supervision and mentoring.
  • Carry out any related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Required

Education and Experience:

Associate’s Degree + 2 years of relevant experience or a Bachelor's degree.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with electronics and wiring.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions.
  • Capability to work independently and in a team setting.
  • Willingness to travel to multiple locations in New Mexico.
  • Ability to operate power equipment used to maintain site vegetation.
  • Effective communication skills.
Special Certification/Licensure

Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to travel around New Mexico.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

Environment: Moderate exposure to extreme temperatures, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and loud noises.

Physical Effort: Moderate physical activity. Heavy lifting, pushing or pulling of objects up to 50 pounds required.

Risk: Exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations requiring extensive safety precautions and protective equipment.
