Position Purpose
Under the general supervision of the School Principal, develop students’ physical skills and abilities, strength, agility, coordination, and teamwork; promote understanding of exercise’s importance for physical and mental well‑being; motivate students toward physical fitness, hygiene, and good health. Address standards related to healthy relationships, emotional wellness, drug/alcohol awareness, hygiene, and nutrition.
Essential Functions- Develop and administer Physical Education and/or Health curricula consistent with district goals.
- Establish a safe learning environment and provide feedback on student progress, expectations, and goals.
- Conduct ongoing assessment of student growth and modify instruction to fit individual needs, including students with special needs.
- Continuously acquire professional knowledge through seminars, workshops, professional meetings, or research.
- Organize and maintain accurate record‑keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement, and attendance per district procedures and applicable laws.
- Encourage parental involvement and maintain effective communication with students and parents.
- Ensure student conduct aligns with school standards and district policies, establishing standards of behavior for a functional learning atmosphere.
- Coordinate with other professional staff, especially within the Physical Education/Health department, and participate in faculty meetings and committees.
- Select and requisition appropriate instructional aids, supplies, and equipment, maintaining inventory records.
- Inspect equipment and field areas to ensure safe working conditions; supervise students in gyms, locker rooms, classrooms, and other spaces.
Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
Knowledge,Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of current physical education and health instructional methods and differentiated instruction based on student learning styles.
- Knowledge of data systems, data analysis, and action plan formulation.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws and regulations regarding education and student health.
- Knowledge of physiology, nutrition, biology, anatomy, hygiene, exercise, and promotion of physical and mental well‑being.
- Proficiency in computer networks and software applications.
- Organizational and coordination skills.
- Effective communication with students and parents.
- Self‑evaluation skills for performance and professional growth.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
- Colorado State Certification as a Physical Education Teacher.
- Colorado State Certification as a Health Teacher preferred.
- Motor Vehicle Operator’s License or ability to provide own transportation.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in an education discipline applicable to teaching assignments.
- Master’s degree preferred.
- Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred.
Works in standard office and school building environments.
Equipment and Travel RequirementsUses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printers, copy machines, telephone, and PE equipment. Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
