Art / Design Teacher
Art Department offering B.A. and B.F.A. programs seeks a dynamic art educator specializing in Graphic Design and Digital Media. The position involves teaching all levels of Graphic Design and Digital Media, including Foundations in Digital Media, Adobe‑based courses, and a BFA thesis in Digital Media. The faculty member will also teach core art and general education courses, cultivate a strong vision for the program, grow enrollment, and expand applied professional practices to connect coursework with careers in fine arts and industry.
Responsibilities- Teach four classes per semester across Graphic Design and Digital Media disciplines.
- Oversee senior projects and BFA thesis work.
- Maintain and upgrade classroom facilities and technology.
- Administer the budget for the Graphic Design area.
- Contribute equitably to departmental duties: curriculum planning, advising, recruitment, and community engagement.
- Master of Fine Arts or other terminal degree from an accredited institution.
- Strong focus on teaching.
- Knowledge of and sensitivity to the educational needs of diverse students, including those with disabilities.
- Demonstrated commitment to equity‑minded, inclusive classroom practices.
- Commitment to honesty, efficacy, and collaboration.
- Teaching and/or professional experience in motion graphics, animation, web design, digital media, or interaction design.
- Ability to mentor students beyond the classroom in preparation for thesis capstone exhibition.
- Knowledge of multimedia web, drawing, typography, design principles, color theory, and photography.
- Understanding of design history and its relevance to current trends.
- Experience working with historically underserved or first‑generation students.
- Experience in recruiting and retaining underrepresented students.
- Commitment to professional development, scholarship, and service to the university and community.
- Self‑awareness of cultural beliefs, perspectives, and privileges and how they inform teaching.
- Decision‑making informed by research, data, and theory that leverages students’ unique cultures and backgrounds.
Pay range: $51,219 – $64,114, commensurate with experience and education.
