Job Description & How to Apply Below
Position Summary:
The SSS Student Success Coordinator is primarily dedicated to student onboarding, financial aid navigation, career exploration, and leading peer-mentorship programs. This role directly targets the non-cognitive and social barriers facing underrepresented students by fostering personal strengths-awareness, self-regulation, collaborative relationships, and constructive decision-making to ensure a deep sense of campus belonging and long-term persistence.
SpecificJob Duties and Responsibilities:
- Non-Cognitive Strategy Development: Design and facilitate workshops addressing non-cognitive critical needs, including study environments, time management, self-advocacy, test anxiety, and building a growth mindset among student participants.
- Mentor Supervision and Training: Recruit, train, and oversee three (3) part‑time Peer Mentors. Coordinate both small‑group and individual motivational mentoring options to guide incoming students through institutional protocols, campus procedures, and social integration.
- Financial Literacy & Guidance: Provide clear, proactive financial aid guidance. Collaborate directly with the ASU Financial Aid Office and the School of Business to host required financial/economic literacy workshops covering debt management, FAFSA completion, credit monitoring, and loan repayment structures.
- Career and Major Exploration Counseling: Partner closely with the ASU Career Services department to deliver coordinated career counseling that assists undecided or first‑generation students in selecting appropriate majors early, preventing extended timelines to graduation. Collaborate with Career Services to implement career exploration, while directly coordinating sophomore leadership components, service‑learning modules, graduate school preparation workshops, and off‑campus site visits.
- Plan of Action (POA) Support: Assist participants in establishing the career, personal, and financial literacy objectives within their individualized Plans of Action (POAs). Review student engagement data during monthly check‑ins to make sure students balance work‑family commutes with academic commitments.
- Campus Engagement and Event Coordination: Coordinate student activities and co‑curricular programs to boost campus involvement. Address cultural dissonance and demographic isolation by providing identity‑safe spaces, networking environments, and links to institutional resources like the ASU Counseling Center.
- Data Collection & Participant Logging: Systemically track, monitor, and record student participation rates, event attendance, and mentorship contact hours within the BLUMEN database to ensure alignment with TRIO grant metrics.
- Recruitment & Summer Scholars Bridge Program: Support the intake, interview rubric evaluations, and identification of the 175 grant participants. Collaborate with residence hall staff and summer instructors during the 3‑week Summer Scholars Bridge Program to ease the transition of new students.
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Counseling, Social Work, or related field
- Experience addressing postsecondary educational standards, equity policies, and socio‑emotional and structural barriers that directly impact undergraduate retention.
- Minimum 1 year of professional experience advising college‑level populations or equivalent.
- Minimum 1 year of experience collaborating and coordinating alongside multiple student service divisions (such as Financial Aid, Housing, Career Services, and Counseling Services).
- Working knowledge of economic/financial literacy frameworks.
- Master’s degree in Education, Counseling, Social Work, or related field.
- Experience in database and student data systems.
- Individuals from backgrounds similar to the target population (low‑income, first‑generation, or individuals with disabilities).
- Bilingual Spanish/English
