Job DescriptionGENERAL
PURPOSE:
Under general direction, coordinates, evaluates, and maintains the network infrastructure for Sandoval County; reports on network statistics; monitors network health; serves as the general network management resource on infrastructure issues; assesses new technology or services; provides network access for users and vendors; and performs other duties as assigned.
- Monitors Sandoval County’s network devices and resources for proper functionality.
- Responsible for network infrastructure and security device maintenance and upgrades.
- Troubleshoots and resolves network issues.
- Contacts and communicates with support vendors to maintain network functionality.
- Responsible for proper cabling of devices and connectivity.
- Completes and provides weekly reports on health statistics and bandwidth usage from various monitored Sandoval County network infrastructure devices.
- Administers change control for all Sandoval County network resources.
- Assists users in accessing network resources.
- Provides tier three guidance and support to the help desk.
- Schedules, coordinates and performs testing, analysis and general maintenance of hardware and software for network resources.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
A Bachelor’s Degree in an IT related field and two (2) years network-related work experience in network administration, router and switch management, management of firewalls and security devices, Wi‑Fi architecture and design, IP addressing architecture and design, or routing protocols, such as EIGRP; or an equivalent combination of education and experience totaling six (6) years.

Certifications:
Valid New Mexico driver’s license or ability to obtain a valid New Mexico driver’s license within 30 days of hire.
Position reports to the Assistant Director of Information Technology and does not exercise supervision over lower level staff.
Required Knowledge- Network monitoring systems, with experience in Logic Monitor preferred.
- Administration and maintenance of network devices including switches, routers, access points, firewalls and security devices.
- Configuration and deployment of networking devices.
- Knowledge of CLI and GUI for network devices.
- Knowledge of various network cabling installation, such as Ethernet and Fiber Optic.
- Knowledge of transceivers, both Single mode and multi‑mode SFP’s.
- IP addressing theory, dynamic routing protocols and theory, and switch and VLAN theory.
- Knowledge of help desk ticketing systems, with experience in Manage Engine preferred.
- VoIP and IP telephony theory.
- Troubleshooting and problem‑solving abilities.
- Research methods and the ability to create and present reports.
- Effective communication principles and practices including oral and written communication to include customer service.
- Microsoft Visio as it relates to network documentation.
- Knowledge of modern computers.
- Functional knowledge of office applications, such as MS Word, MS Excel, & MS PowerPoint.
- English language usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
- Principles of business letter writing.
- Monitoring and managing of network infrastructure.
- Ability to unbox, burn in, configure and deploy network infrastructure resources.
- Gathering detailed network infrastructure metrics and ability to provide those in a weekly report.
- Providing technical support to users of Sandoval County.
- Programming and troubleshooting network infrastructure equipment.
- Configuring network devices using CLI or GUI.
- Analyzing problems and recommending appropriate solutions.
- Adapting to changes in technology.
- Interacting with users and office staff in non‑technical, clear terms.
- Handling complex multiple tasks and prioritizing effectively.
