Sheriff Department, Victim Services Volunteer
Work with victims of crimes and be an advocate for their rights and assist them as necessary. Respond to on scene calls, follow up with victims, provide services and complete data reports. Work closely with Victim Services Coordinator.
Essential Job Functions:
- Provides direct support and victim services to victims of crime
- Attends continuing educational training
- Computer skills, including record keeping as required
- Drive throughout the valley to meet and assist victims of crime
- Ability to follow policies and procedures of the County and the Sheriff's Department
Required Qualifications:
- Knowledge of law enforcement procedures and processes to assist victims
- Work with trauma victims
- Record keeping
- Colorado Victim Rights Act
- Learn and operate software specific to program
- Analytical and problem-solving skills
- Effective verbal and listening communications skills
- Model positive behavior
Abilities:
- Engage in continuing education and professional development activities
- Maintain confidentiality
- Pass background check
- Computer skills, including record keeping as required
- Ability to work independently or in a team
- Ability to work in a variety of environments where a victim may be
- Ability to travel
- Ability to meet the physical requirements listed below
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma
- Colorado Driver's License required
- Must be 21 years of age or older
Physical Requirements, Work Conditions and Environment:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Minimal physical effort generally required in the performance of duties under typically office conditions. Position requires the ability to operate a computer keyboard at an efficient speed.
This may involve repetitive hand movement and fine coordination. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, and to reach with hands and arms. The position is required to stand, sit for long periods of time, talk and hear. Hearing and vision correctable to normal ranges; close-up vision and the ability to adjust focus across an audience.
Occasionally, the position may stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, carry, twist and push and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight. The employee is required to communicate both orally and in writing. Employee must be able to reach and manipulate objects, tools or controls, and lift up to 25 pounds. The noise level may be very quiet to noisy depending on the situation.
This position may be required to drive in a variety of weather conditions both locally and throughout the state. Volunteer must be able to work in a variety of environments wherever victims of crimes may be found. Must be able to drive throughout the valley to meet and assist victims of crimes.
