Operates and maintains trucks to transport materials to and from specified destinations and operates other light trucks and equipment used in the maintenance of county roads. The job includes manual labor at least 50% of the time, 35% driving trucks and equipment, and 15% other duties as assigned.
Essential Job Functions- Operates tandem-axle trucks with snow plow and sander, tilt bed trailer, belly-dump trailer, small backhoe, and steel and rubber-tired rollers.
- Operates other pieces of equipment required as necessary as part of on-the-job training.
- Services and makes minor repairs to assigned equipment.
- Inspects truck equipment and supplies such as tires, lights, brakes, gas, oil, and water.
- Performs emergency roadside repairs such as changing tires, installing light bulbs, tire chains, and spark plugs.
- Positions blocks and ties rope around items to secure cargo ensuring transit.
- Performs manual work including spreading gravel, patching potholes, repairing or replacing culverts, fences, cattle guards, removing rocks, trees, and debris from roads and rights of ways, and trimming trees and brush.
- Directs traffic at job sites when necessary.
- May operate heavy equipment up to 25% of the time in a year.
- May perform sign shop duties including laying out and fabricating signs.
- Maintains truck log, according to state and federal regulations.
- Maintains telephone or radio contact with supervisor to receive instructions when necessary.
- Performs other related duties as required by the Road and Bridge Director.
- Ability to work schedule as assigned by Supervisor.
- Show up for work on time and ready to work.
- Ability to follow the policies and procedures of Alamosa County.

- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Ability to write simple correspondence.
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- CDL Class A Driver’s License required with no Air Brake Restriction “E” or “L” restricting a CDL holder from operating a commercial vehicle with manual transmission.
