SALARY: $28.43 - $32.96/hourly [Union Position Hiring range - Step 1-6]
The City of Unalaska is accepting applications for the Part-Time Library Assistant position. Located in the number one commercial fishing port in the United States, the International Port of Dutch Harbor, Unalaska, Alaska, is a coastal community in the Eastern Aleutian Islands with a multi-cultural population of approximately 4,250 full-time residents and seasonal influxes from multiple commercial fishery operations.

GENERAL DESCRIPTIONThis position, under direct supervision from the City Librarian, provides routine clerical and library work in answering phones, receiving patrons, circulation of library materials, collection of library fines, providing customer assistance, cash handling, and data processing.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIESAbility to work courteously, efficiently, and professionally with the public. Verbal and written communication skills. Working knowledge of office practices and procedures. Ability to use basic office equipment. Dedication to maintaining the confidentiality of library patron records. Knowledge of and ability to accurately maintain record‑keeping and filing systems. Must be proficient in a Windows environment. Have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, and the public.
Able to perform a variety of miscellaneous duties as assigned, such as but not limited to answering phones, running errands, making arrangements for the use of library facilities, setting up tables and chairs for classes, and helping with planning and presenting programs to the public. Experienced in presenting programs to the public, especially children.
High school diploma or G.E.D.
Two (2) or more years of experience working in a professional office, providing public service, or previous library experience preferred.
Other combinations of education and experience that could provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed will be evaluated on an individual basis.
LICENSES & SPECIAL REQUIREMENTSValid Alaska driver's license or the ability to obtain one within 90 days of employment and prior to operating a city‑owned vehicle.
Must be eligible to work in the US; if hired, must complete employment eligibility verification form (I-9) as required by Federal law.
Successfully pass background tests, which include criminal background, professional, and reference checks.
Successfully pass a pre‑employment drug test.
Hours are set by library operational needs and require non‑traditional work hours.
BENEFITSAnnual travel allowance of $1,000 after the first year of employment.

24 hours of Floating Holiday per year.
28 hours of paid Holiday per year.
Personal leave starting at 8 hours a month.

Except Municipal Holidays; 8:00 a.m. to Noon; 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
