Camp Sisaulik Coordinator

Responsible for the general well-being of each youth camper and aiding program staff in running activities.

Upholds the organization’s mission, and values as well as demonstrates an understanding of and compliance with organization’s policies and procedures.

Promotes the organization’s mission and vision and demonstrates integrity, professionalism, accountability, cooperation with and consideration of others.

• Take responsibility for and enforce the rules, policies, and traditions of the camp.
• Maintain a positive attitude while serving as a good role model to campers in personal language, appearance, manners and health habits.
• Assist in teaching or leading activities as assigned.
• Supervise all assigned aspects of the campers’ day.
• Set a good example for campers and others including cleanliness, punctuality, sharing clean-up chores, sportsmanship and table manners.
• Follow camp rules and regulations pertaining to smoking, use of alcoholic beverages, and use of drugs.
• These may not be the only duties to be performed; some duties may be reassigned as required.

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Possess quality communication skills.
• Interested in working with youth in a group camp situation.
• Flexible with work style and environment.
• Assume responsibility for leadership and guidance to those campers in daily living skills.
• Remain a positive role model.

Knowledge of:

• Traditional forms of government and tribal customs and traditions.
• Policies, functions, and responsibilities of the Native Village of Kotzebue and Alaskan Native culture, traditions, history, and needs.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and communicate effectively. The employee occasionally is required to move throughout the facility; and lift up to 25 pounds. Close vision ability is required. Employee may be exposed rarely to dust, fumes, airborne particles, and/or allergens.

This position takes place outdoors in a remote camp setting. Travel to the campsite will be by boat, weather permitting. Counselors should be prepared to work in varying weather conditions and natural environments throughout the duration of camp activities.
