Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) – Level I
Hamilton Construction, LLC is seeking an experienced Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO). The Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) Level I is responsible for implementing, enforcing, and monitoring the project’s Safety and Health Program in compliance with USACE EM 385-1-1, federal, state, and local safety regulations. The SSHO serves as the on-site competent safety representative and has the authority to stop work for unsafe conditions or practices.
Project is located in Skagway, AK.
Key Responsibilities- Serve as the primary on-site safety representative for the project.
- Implement and enforce the approved Accident Prevention Plan (APP).
- Ensure compliance with USACE EM 385-1-1, OSHA regulations, and project-specific safety requirements.
- Conduct daily safety inspections of work areas, equipment, and operations.
- Identify, document, and correct hazardous conditions and unsafe work practices.
- Coordinate and conduct weekly safety meetings.
- Review and approve Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs) prior to work starting.
- Maintain all required safety documentation, logs, and inspection reports.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses; complete reports and implement corrective actions.
- Minimum 5 years of construction safety experience within the last 10 years
- Experience working on USACE construction projects
- Demonstrated knowledge of EM 385-1-1 safety standards.
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and safety documents.
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
- Ability to be on-site full-time during construction activities.
- Traffic Control Supervisor (TCS)
- 40-Hour EM 385-1-1 Construction Safety Course (current)
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety
- Current First Aid/CPR certification
- Ability to walk job sites with uneven terrain.
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions.
