Position: PHYSICIAN (EMERGENCY MEDICINE)
Location: Fort Wainwright

Physician (Emergency) - Bassett Army Community Hospital, Fort Wainwright Alaska.

About the Position: This is an open continuous announcement. Multiple vacancies exist and may be filled from this announcement at any of the locations listed. We accept applications on an ongoing basis; qualified applicants will be considered as vacancies become available. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation. Student Loan repayment may be authorized. Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service.

Fort Wainwright is located in Interior Alaska. The hospital is near the Alaska Range, the Brooks Range, and the Chena River. The area offers natural scenery and a vibrant community.

Major Duties
  • Responsible for the full range of cases and the immediate initial recognition, evaluation, care, and disposition of patients.
  • Provide recommendations on additional diagnostic or treatment procedures in clinical conferences and/or discussions with staff physicians.
  • Direct and provide oversight of the operation of the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to include nurses, paramedics, paraprofessionals, administrative and ambulance personnel and pre-hospital medical management of patients.
  • Provide consultative advice on professional and administrative matters concerning patient care in the Emergency Department.
  • Make recommendations regarding changes to policies, procedures and programs needed for efficient department operations.
  • Provide a broad range of medical diagnosis, treatment, counseling, services and referrals to primary care and specialty clinics.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Conditions of Employment
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
  • Position requires interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
  • Selectees must sign a statement consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or provide an exemption.
  • Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing; consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing is required.
  • A pre-placement medical examination is required.
  • Moderate to heavy lifting may be required.
  • Immunization screening is required;
    Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact.
  • Applicants must obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification;
    Advanced certification does not supersede BLS.
  • May be required to obtain and maintain certifications in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).
  • Applicants must fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain appropriate clinical privileges.
  • Position may include shift work (evenings, weekends, holidays).
  • Position may require rotating shifts and work on call during irregular hours.
Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens only.

Basic Requirement for Physician (Emergency Medicine): Degree:
Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada, accredited by recognized bodies. Evidence of equivalency for foreign degrees required.

Licensure: Current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a U.S. territory.

Graduate Training: At least one year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting (e.g., internship or first year of residency).

Residency Training for GP-14: Must have successfully completed accredited residency training in Emergency Medicine and at least 4 years of equivalent experience.

Salary
  • Tier 1: $124,308 - $400,000
  • Tier 2: $200,000 - $400,000
