We are seeking a passionate and adventurous Special Education Teacher to join a unique school community in Seldovia, Alaska. This role offers a rare opportunity to live and work in a breathtaking coastal village accessible primarily by seaplane, providing an unparalleled professional and personal experience.

This is a hybrid teaching position, serving both special education and general education students. The ideal candidate is flexible, student-centered, and excited to be part of a close-knit school community.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in special education from an accredited educational program.
  • Valid Alaska state elementary & special education certification or ability to obtain required state certification.
  • Experience working directly with students with disabilities in a special education setting.
  • Experience managing a mixed classroom assignment, including separate instruction for a small special education cohort and larger general education groups.
  • Ability to work full time within a single school building and adapt to varied student group sizes (approximately 6 special education students and 15–20 general education students during different parts of the week).
  • Willingness and ability to comply with local travel logistics, including living in the community and using seaplane transport when required for access to nearby towns.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Training in behavior management, differentiated instruction, or transition planning for secondary students.

Assignment Details

  • Full-time position in one school building.
  • Weekly schedule split between working with a small special education group and larger general education classes.
  • Teachers live in Seldovia Village and travel by seaplane to the nearest town for additional services or supplies as needed.
