Food Service Aide – Hooper Bay Head Start

Part-time position (15 hours per week, 37 weeks per year) with a salary of $21.27 hourly.

Job Summary

Assists with planning, preparation, and serving of meals and snacks; substitutes for Food Service Specialist; helps with food purchasing, kitchen sanitation and safety; and supports classroom activities as appropriate.

Essential Functions, Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist supervisor in ensuring compliance with all applicable federal and state sanitation and safety regulations, Head Start Performance Standards, Child & Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) guidelines, including traditional foods guidelines, Child Development Division Head Start/Early Head Start Policies and Procedures, and the Head Start Work Plan.
  • Follow prescribed procedures for preparing program-defined meals and completing meal set-up.
  • Assist with plans or follow prepared plans for preparation of meals, snacks, and serve food family style.
  • Maintain all records of meal counts, inventory, food weights and temperature, and other food service data as prescribed by the program.
  • Substitute for Food Service Specialist as necessary.
  • Ensure all food service areas are clean and orderly.
  • Assist with cleaning, dishwashing, and garbage removal.
    • Cleaning of all stations, equipment, floors, and shelving.
    • Washing all dishes containers, pans and utensils.
    • All garbage removed from kitchen daily.
  • Report any irregularities to management in a timely manner.
  • Assist with purchase of foods, cleaning products, and supplies.
  • Assist in ensuring adequate sanitation of kitchen and safety of equipment.
  • Assist with required documentation and records.
  • Participate in food-related learning activities with children.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings, regular meetings with supervisor, and required training.
  • Other Responsibilities
  • Assist classroom and janitorial staff as requested by supervisor and as work schedule permits.

  • Physical Demands

    Grasp, type, see, talk, hear, and lift and carry 40 pounds while performing tasks such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, bending, and handling materials. Requires physical activity including sedentary tasks, and good general health free from serious issues.

    Position Type / Expected Hours of Work

    Part-time position, 15 hours per week, 37 weeks per year. Days and hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., or hours may vary with location. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.

    Travel

    Primarily local during the business day; some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.

    Employment Requirements and Required Education
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • High school degree or GED.
  • TB screening and basic physical exam within 30 days of hire with follow-up every 3 years at employee's expense.
  • State and federal background checks including fingerprints.
  • Attend 15 hours of professional development training annually.
  • Obtain Alaska Food Worker’s Card within 30 days of hire with follow-up every 3 years at employer's expense.
  • Previous serving experience required.
  • Responsible work ethic with reliable attendance.
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and 42 CFR Part II.
  • Self-directed problem solving and decision-making with little or no direct supervision while working effectively as a team member.
