To provide learning support to Primary grade students in the areas of Literacy and Math.
Responsibilities- Works with the classroom teacher to provide instructional support to primary grade students in the areas of literacy and math.
- Meets and instructs assigned groups according to lesson plans and learning targets.
- Guides the learning process toward the successful achievement of students.
- Works with the classroom teacher to prepare lessons and activities that support the learning objectives of the lessons.
- Participates in training and in-service activities.
- Keeps records including daily logs as needed for Title I reporting purposes.
- Honors all school and district policies and procedures.
- Maintains a positive attitude with students and colleagues.
- Encourages students to set and maintain high standards for classroom behavior.
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Attends and participates in faculty meetings.
- Establishes and maintains cooperative relations with others.
- Monitors the behavior of all students within his/her sight and hearing while on duty.
- Other duties that may be assigned.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to live and work in a cross‑cultural, rural Alaskan environment.
- Must meet the Federal Highly Qualified standards for Paraprofessionals.
- Valid Alaska driver’s license preferred but not required.
- Decision-making ability and the ability to work independently.
- Ability to plan, schedule, and prioritize work.
- Extensive computer software proficiency.
- Interpersonal skills to courteously and effectively interact with students and colleagues.
- Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication.
- Willingness to perform various job‑related duties as situations require, a strong sense of teamwork, and ability to work cooperatively with others.
- Awareness of all district requirements, Board of Education practices, Alaska State Laws, and Department of Education and Early Development regulations.
- Good attendance and punctuality.
High School diploma or equivalent.
Language SkillsAbility to read and interpret documents such as software operating and training instructions, lesson plans and instructional materials. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before supervisors and district employees. Ability to speak Yupik preferred.
Mathematical SkillsAbility to calculate figures and amounts as may be required in lesson plans.
Reasoning AbilityAbility to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
ComputerSkills and Abilities
Knowledge and ability to operate a variety of software on computers. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word.
OtherSkills and Abilities
Ability to develop effective working relationships with the principal, staff, students, parents, and community. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies. Ability to work in a cross‑cultural environment.
Physical DemandsEmployee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. Occasionally required to stand, walk, operate a computer, and reach with hands and arms. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Requires close vision and depth perception. Reasonable accommodations may be made.
