Title: CTE Teacher - ReadiSTAR Vocational Instructor

Reports To: Director of the Alaska Technical Center

Supervises: Students

To inspire, prepare, and expose students to a variety of career fields through engaging, meaningful vocational experiences that build awareness, skills and motivation toward postsecondary success.

• Plan and implement daily lessons and hands‑on activities aligned to vocational pathways introduced during ReadiSTAR.
• Coordinate with industry partners, guest speakers and site leaders to facilitate high‑quality career exploration field trips.
• Supervise and monitor students during instruction time, field trips, and designated residential hours.
• Collaborate with STAR of the Northwest and Alaska Technical Center staff to ensure student safety, engagement and success.
• Maintain accurate records of student attendance, participation and program outcomes.
• Foster an inclusive, respectful and culturally relevant learning environment.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to students as they explore future career and educational options.
• Participate in planning meetings, training sessions and program evaluations as required.
• Uphold all district policies and program expectations including those related to student conduct and dormitory life.
• Maintain inventory of instructional materials, supplies, and safety equipment used during program delivery.
• Support recruitment and outreach efforts to promote student participation in ReadiSTAR.
• Provide transportation assistance and support for student field experiences, as needed.
• Participate in cross‑program collaboration with other educators and CTE professionals.
• Support students in completing follow‑up reflections or assessments related to their vocational experiences.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Alaska Technical Center.

The ReadiSTAR Vocational Instructor is responsible for the planning, instruction and supervision of high school students (Grade 9‑12) participating in the ReadiSTAR Vocational Exploratory Program. This two‑week intensive program brings students from across the region to Kotzebue, where they reside in dormitory housing at the STAR of the Northwest Magnet School and engage in a diverse range of hands‑on Career and Technical Education (CTE) learning experiences.

The instructor will deliver high‑quality instruction aligned with the career exploration goals, facilitate industry exposure through field trips and guest‑speakers, and support students in understanding pathways to employment and postsecondary training.

Length of Position: 190 days

Salary: Depending on experience / negotiated salary schedule

Conditions of Employment: Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check and fingerprint clearance. This position is subject to the terms and conditions of the Certified Negotiated Agreement and District policies.
