POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direction of the EMS Program Manager this position is responsible for supporting and developing regional emergency skills and certification(s) of: lay responders, community members, volunteers, CHA/Ps, EMTs and others. This will be accomplished through strategic partnerships in regional communities, identifying and working with community leaders, development of independent regional instructors, and by providing access to education directly when it is otherwise not accessible.

The importance of developing relationships and a network of individuals who can act as resources cannot be understated and requires strong interpersonal skills, exceptional customer service, and a willingness to go above and beyond expectations. This position will give direct input based on successes and challenges that influence the short term operation and mid to long term strategic direction of EMS systems development.

Reports directly to the EMS Program Manager or designee.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities Regional Development/Instructor Specialist I
  • Identify, create, and maintain meaningful relationships with stakeholders and organizations that can help facilitate positive educational outcomes. Specifically; identifying and working with regional partners ex: local schools, colleges, Cities, IRA Offices, and others that can provide learning spaces, and advertising/recruiting to promote student attendance.
  • Arrange and facilitate meetings regionally either in person or virtually to understand critical issues, concerns or successes to regional EMS responders, community members, volunteers etc.
  • Plan, schedule, and instruct:
    American Heart Association (AHA) Heartsaver, Basic Life Support for healthcare providers, First Aid, CPR courses within guidelines of the AHA program administration manual (PAM); and complete associated student paperwork.
  • Manage Enrollware software system to schedule courses and ensure students/instructors prompt issuance of certifications through the regions affiliated training center.
  • Assist in being the department’s point of contact for American Heart Association instructors in region for technical questions and issues.
  • Conduct a minimum of 3 trainings in regional villages as assigned per month.
  • Mentor and support other newly certified instructors that may be developed in region. This includes co-instructing with new instructors, and teaching administrative skills to complete required course paperwork.
  • Instruct State of Alaska EMS courses to include Emergency Trauma Technician (ETT) with an interest in progressing to instruct Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) courses.
  • Maintain a minimum of 10 documented patient contacts per year, with no more than 3 occurring during medevac transfers, as recorded in the ELITE ePCR system.
  • Support in all aspects of coordination, logistics, and execution of American Heart Association education and State of Alaska EMS curriculum.
  • Compiles monthly required training statistics reported to the State of Alaska and collaborates with the department on activity reporting.
  • Provides support with purchasing, inventory, and improvement of front and back-office organization.
  • When assigned or needed, act as the EMS Council’s certifying officer, overseeing protocol during official State testing.
  • Other duties as assigned by the EMS Program Manager in support of departmental goals.
Regional Development/Instructor Specialist II
  • Fully instruct EMTI courses to meet the demand of regional responders and CHA/Ps as outlined by the State of Alaska Office of EMS.
  • Oversee and ensure training supplies and equipment are on hand and meet course requirements.
  • Take a lead role in the Code Blue Program at the regional level to include technical assistance to organization(s), make recommendations to the Regional Office, and effectively manage procurement processes.
