Kake City School District

School Year: 2026–2027

Start Date:

Aug 24, 2026

The 7–12 Mathematics Teacher delivers high-quality, adaptable mathematics instruction to students in grades 7–12 for the 2026–2027 school year. This position requires a 7–12-certified teacher who is highly qualified in mathematics and capable of managing dynamic classroom environments—including mixed grades and multiple skill levels within the same period.

In addition to core math instruction ranging from Pre-Algebra through upper-level high school mathematics, the ideal candidate must be versatile and willing to teach secondary elective courses as assigned, along with an advisory section.

The teacher plays a vital role in supporting KCSD's academic goals, including strong Tier 1 instruction, effective integration of technology, and culturally responsive, place-based learning aligned with Kake's local community and values.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Mathematics & Elective Instruction (Grades 7–12)

  • Immediate Availability:
Begin teaching immediately for the 2026–2027 school year, jumping into classroom routines and instruction smoothly.
  • Differentiated & Multi-Level Teaching:
Effectively plan for and instruct classes that may contain mixed grades and varying levels of mathematical background and skill proficiency, using small-group instruction, targeted interventions, and adaptive pacing.
  • Core Curriculum:
Teach a range of secondary mathematics courses, which may include Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, and Consumer/Applied Math.
  • Electives & Advisory:
Flexibly plan and teach assigned elective courses (based on student interest and district need) in addition to leading an advisory period.
  • Standards-Based Alignment:
Deliver instruction aligned to Alaska State Standards for Mathematics, providing clear, explicit instruction in mathematical reasoning, problem-solving, conceptual understanding, and procedural fluency.
  • Place-Based Learning:
Design lessons that incorporate real-world applications, hands-on learning, and culturally relevant, place-based contexts connected to the Kake community.
  • Diverse Learners:
Implement effective instructional strategies for diverse learners, including students receiving MTSS interventions and special education supports.
  • Record Keeping:
Maintain accurate and timely student records, grades, and progress reports.

Assessment & Data-Based Decision Making

  • Administer and analyze formative and summative assessments, including AK STAR, curriculum-based assessments, and classroom assessments.
  • Use data to adjust instruction, identify learning gaps, and monitor student progress toward proficiency across different skill tiers.
  • Participate in district and school-level data meetings to support KCSD's math improvement goals.
  • Document student progress for MTSS, special education processes, and intervention programs as needed.

Collaboration & Professional Practice

  • Collaborate with colleagues, paraprofessionals, and special education staff to ensure inclusive, supportive instruction for all students.
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding academic progress, expectations, and student needs.
  • Participate actively in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), staff meetings, and required professional development.
  • Partner with the school counselor to support student course pathways and postsecondary readiness.
  • Model professionalism, reliability, and positive engagement with students, families, and the community.

Classroom Environment & Student Support

  • Establish and maintain a consistent, respectful, and safe learning environment capable of supporting diverse learning groups simultaneously.
  • Implement district behavior expectations and reinforce positive student conduct.
  • Provide structured routines that support student engagement and self-directed learning.
  • Support extracurricular activities, academic clubs (e.g., Math Club), or tutoring as able.

Culturally Responsive & Place-Based Practice

  • Integrate culturally relevant instructional practices, drawing on local culture, language, and community expertise where appropriate.
  • Foster a classroom environment where all students feel a sense of belonging and respect.
  • Support KCSD's mission to provide education aligned with community values and local heritage.
