NATURE AND SCOPE OF JOB:

To implement on a daily basis all assistance toward supporting student learning as deemed necessary and/or required to meet the personal and academic needs of each student.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Demonstrate consistent punctuality and regular attendance

Assist in implementation of lessons in academic areas (K-12) as directed/prepared by the regular classroom teacher in individual, cooperative, small and large group settings.

Facilitate the supervision and classroom management of all students as directed by the regular classroom teacher.

Assist classroom teacher in preparation of materials and equipment for use in instruction.

Maintain confidentiality of all information concerning students, staff, parents or guardians.

Demonstrate consistent use of positive verbal and non-verbal communication skills and interpersonal relations when working with students, parents/guardians, and all district personnel.

Assist in grading of routine student work.

Prepare materials needed for classroom lessons, student use or by teacher request: locate, research, duplicate/copy, construct, file, laminate, type, design, cut, glue, draw, color and generally organize instructional materials.

Intervene with students, at the direction of the teacher or administrator in crisis/emergency situations.

Demonstrate initiative by seeking appropriate additional tasks when assigned work is completed. This includes working with students on academic or behavioral needs even when not specifically directed by the supervising teacher.

Perform other duties as assigned by classroom teacher or principal.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of the teaching-learning process.

Meet ESSA criteria for paraprofessionals.

Knowledge of child growth and development.

Knowledge of lesson implementation and presentation.

Knowledge of classroom management techniques.

Demonstrated positive speech skills (enunciation and clarity).

Ability to think clearly and calculate accurately.

Ability to work with people of various personality types (Flexibility).

Possess and demonstrate sound emotional judgement.

Ability to follow and successfully complete written and oral directions.

EDUCATION, LICENSE, CERTIFICATION OF FORMAL TRAINING:

AA degree, two years of college or pass HELP test required.

Meet criteria of Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) legislation.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Finger strength required to type effectively on a computer keyboard

Finger, hand and arm strength necessary to write on paper, whiteboard, overhead projector sheets, etc. throughout the workday.

Visual acuity and stamina to work at a computer monitor

Lower body strength to kneel, stand, and walk throughout the workday.

Upper body strength to correctly lift up to 25 pounds and carry more than 50 feet.

Verbal stamina to articulate clearly and with appropriate volume throughout the workday.

Auditory discrimination sufficient to receive detailed information through normal speech at 5 feet and warning cries or alarms above normal classroom and playground noise.

ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:

Regular exposure to weather extremes.

Occasional exposure to loud noises.

The Nenana City School District is located in Nenana, Alaska. We are 55 miles south of Fairbanks and 300 miles north of Anchorage on the Parks Highway. The City of Nenana is positioned at the confluence where the Nenana River enters the Tanana River.

On average, our district serves 200 K-12 students at the Nenana City School and 2000 correspondence students through the Cyber Lynx K-12 program, with satellite offices in Anchorage, Fairbanks, and Wasilla.
