Biomedical Equipment Technician I:
Performs biomedical engineering activities for the hospital. Applies mechanical and electronics skills to assemble, analyze, maintain, and correct malfunctions on various patient care equipment. Assists in training on the operation and care of medical equipment.
Biomedical Equipment Technician II:
With minimal or no supervision, plans and schedules biomedical engineering activities for the hospital. Applies mechanical and electronics skills to analyze, maintain, and correct malfunctions in electrical patient care equipment. Provides training in electrical safety and equipment operation.
Biomedical Equipment Technician I:
- Performs and completes monthly scheduled preventive maintenance and safety inspections in a timely manner.
- Determines priorities for utilization of resources and applies mechanical and electronics skills to analyze, maintain, and correct malfunctions in patient care equipment.
- Inspects and evaluates new equipment before it is put into use and certifies the safe operation of patient and employee personal electrical equipment brought for use at the hospital.
- Utilizes an equipment management database for maintenance and testing records in accordance with JCAHO standards.
- Provides engineering services throughout the organization as directed.
- Provides repair and preventive maintenance for bio‑medical and dental equipment in the villages and at the Maniilaq Health Center.
- Can be called upon to spend time in villages supporting program objectives.
- May be required to travel in small planes regularly and routinely lift and/or carry equipment/tools in excess of 50 pounds.
Biomedical Equipment Technician II:
- Plans and schedules biomedical engineering activities for the hospital and village clinics.
- Determines priorities for utilization of resources and applies mechanical and electronics skills to analyze, maintain, and correct malfunctions in electrical patient care equipment.
- Inspects and evaluates new equipment before it is put into use and certifies the safe operation of patient and employee personal electrical equipment brought for use at the hospital.
- Assists in training on the operation and care of patient care equipment.
- Maintains an equipment management database for maintenance and testing records in accordance with JCAHO standards.
- Provides biomedical engineering services at other service units as directed.
- Serves as a member of other hospital committees as assigned.
- Provides repair and preventive maintenance for bio‑medical and dental equipment in the villages and at the Maniilaq Health Center.
- Travels in small planes regularly and routinely lifts and/or carries equipment/tools in excess of 50 pounds.
- May spend a percentage of the time in the villages supporting program objectives.
- Monitors, maintains, and installs Tele Rad equipment and acts as a technical advisor when required.
- Provides guidance to BMET I, BMET II, and other departmental staff under the direction of the departmental manager.
Biomedical Equipment Technician I:
Requires a high school diploma and an associate degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology, plus one year of experience (or equivalent). Must demonstrate knowledge of biomedical instruments and equipment, be able to read and interpret technical data specifications and drawings, and use test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment.
Biomedical Equipment Technician II (minimum):
High school diploma and an associate degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology, plus four years of directly relevant work experience. Military or other relevant experience may be considered. Must demonstrate knowledge of biomedical instruments and equipment, read and interpret technical data specifications and drawings, and use test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment.
Biomedical Equipment Technician II (advanced):
High school diploma and an associate degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology, including 10 or more years of directly relevant work experience. Military or other relevant experience may be considered. Must meet the certification requirements for Bio Med or have successfully completed the certification exam and be a CBET. Must possess knowledge of biomedical instruments and equipment, read and interpret technical data specifications and drawings, and use test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment.
