How a DS Engineer Senior will make an impact

A Senior DS Engineer provides technical expertise to modernize network design and implementation supporting multiple Air Force and Space Force bases globally. The engineer serves as the technical resource for survey and implementation efforts, working closely with base counterparts and facilitating planning, execution, testing and sustainment of wired network functionality.

This position is on‑site at Eielson Air Force Base, Fairbanks, Alaska, and requires the candidate to reside in the Fairbanks area for daily project support.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Provide solutions to problems and guidance to less experienced field engineers.
  • Guide equipment selection and infrastructure maintenance.
  • Implement advanced or new technologies based on customer needs.
  • Support and conduct end-to-end testing of fiber optic cables using OTDR, power meters, and other tools.
  • Report findings and provide solutions for issues that halt progress.
  • Recommend and present solutions from equipment assessments.
  • Train internal and external groups on product features and specifications.
  • Build client relationships by improving product interaction.
  • Review work of less experienced team members.
  • Coach team members to ensure accurate production submissions.
  • Communicate daily with team to support project timelines and goals.
  • Coordinate with Government Points of Contact to ensure timely project task completion.
  • Assist the PM in maintaining clear, consistent, timely and accurate communications with stakeholders.
  • Provide input into distribution systems design and technical recommendations to program and operation teams.
  • Lead small implementation teams or manage specific work scopes for a given site location.
Other Tasks Include
  • Manage technical, administrative, and operational aspects of assigned projects.
  • Develop technical project plans, proposals, reports, and task orders.
  • Perform detailed technical services for assigned tasks.
  • Plan and provide recommendations on workload.
  • Update network as‑built documentation and records based on splicing and testing results.
  • Attend customer meetings and serve as primary network engineering liaison.
  • Coordinate with vendors, other agencies, and client staff.
  • Coordinate development of deliverables and products.
  • Ensure quality assurance of project deliverables.
  • Maintain current knowledge of relevant technology.
  • Participate in special projects as required.
  • Review project requirements and develop future work strategies.
What You’ll Need to Succeed
  • BA/BS degree and 5+ years of experience in DS Engineering, ideally in a DOW environment on IT upgrade projects.
  • Active Secret Level Clearance required.
Technical Skills
  • Familiarity with distribution systems (ISP/OSP) design and implementation documents such as design documentation, as‑built diagrams, rack elevations, and circuit connectivity matrices.
  • Familiar with all aspects of fiber testing.
  • Thorough understanding of wired and general IT functions.
Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to work effectively in a virtual team environment.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, documents, and governmental regulations.
  • Strong commitment to a team environment and collaborative work.
  • Strong coordination and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience using MS Visio or related CAD tools.
  • BICSI related certifications.

Job Details

Salary range: $83,927 - $113,549 (not guaranteed; based on experience, location, and contractual requirements).

Scheduled weekly hours: 40.

Travel required:

less than 10%.

Telecommuting options:
Onsite.

USA AK Eielson AFB.

Clearance:
Secret (must presently possess and be able to obtain).
