Intern​/Co-op – Refining Mechanical Engineer

• Become familiar with industry codes and best practices
• Build critical thinking skills
• Understand how all engineering disciplines work together as a cohesive team
• Gain knowledge of various aspects of a refinery by working with refinery professionals
• Work in more than one refinery area to develop a broad understanding of plant operations
• Expand written and verbal presentation skills
• Develop project management skills and create project scopes, estimates, and schedules
• Oversee approved project design efforts and assist in the construction process
• Support the refinery Maintenance Department through equipment-related improvements
• Perform root cause failure analysis
• Optimize maintenance programs for rotating equipment, including pumps and compressors
• Troubleshoot fixed equipment, including pressure vessels, heat exchangers, and piping systems
• Identify new technology in design, materials, and repair methods to achieve longer running times at lower costs

• Candidates must be majoring in Mechanical Engineering
• Strong academic performance
• Candidates must be authorized to work in the US on a full-time indefinite basis without the need for employment visa sponsorship now or in the future
• Positions are available spring, summer, and fall semesters
• Availability for multiple work terms is preferred
• A valid driver's license is required
• Concurrent enrollment in a degree seeking program
• Military experience a plus

Demonstrates a strong foundation in Mechanical Engineering principles while effectively collaborating with refinery professionals to optimize plant operations. Capable of managing projects, performing root cause failure analysis, and enhancing maintenance programs for rotating and fixed equipment.
