Electrical Engineer (USCG)

Bowhead is seeking an Electrical Engineer to fill the role of Interdisciplinary Engineer and provide engineering services (design / construction) to the United States Coast Guard (USCG) Electrical Engineering Unit (CEU) in Juneau, AK. The position supports projects throughout the 17th Coast Guard District (D17) area of responsibility (AOR).

  • Provide Electrical engineering services for the CEU Juneau in support of projects on the Advanced Acquisition Plan and other insertions.
  • Provide Electrical engineering troubleshooting and/or consultations, offering technical and project advice to CEU Juneau Project Managers.
  • Conduct comprehensive technical reviews of professional studies, reports, and analysis.
  • Collaborate with managers, other engineers/architects, construction project managers, legal staff, contract specialists, and contractor personnel to resolve unique and/or complex engineering problems and disputes.
  • Provide technical reviews and comments for project designs, including Design‑Build and Design‑Bid‑Build efforts.
  • Respond to A/E and contractor information requests and coordinate with the CEU Juneau Project Manager to develop scopes of work for contract modifications.
  • Provide facility condition assessments and evaluations throughout D17.
  • Travel (potential overnight) to meet with CEU Juneau staff and review contract performance; occasional travel to operational and construction sites in the D17 AOR.
  • Minimum 5 years of work experience in electrical engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years of hands‑on experience with AutoCAD.
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
  • Experience in National Building Codes (IBC, IRC) and electrical sub‑disciplines such as network design, backup power, panels, one‑line drawings, power distribution, telecommunications, remote sensing, signal processing, digital circuits, and instrumentation.
  • Advanced degree (Master’s and/or Ph.D.) from an ABET‑accredited program preferred.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer or other related certifications highly desirable.
  • Experience designing projects in Alaska or Arctic locations and/or reviewing technical packages for architect and engineering services is preferred.

Work Environment:
Primarily sedentary in a normal office setting; some overnight travel may be required, and field work may include exposure to moderate stressors such as adverse weather, small aircraft, ladder climbing, and building crawl spaces.

Physical Demands:
Must lift up to 25 pounds, stand and walk for prolonged periods, and be able to twist, bend, and squat periodically.

Security Clearance:
Must obtain a clearance at the Public Trust level. US citizenship is required for Public Trust clearance.

Health and Safety:
Candidates may be subject to pre‑employment drug and alcohol screening and random drug testing, following UIC’s Non‑DOT Drug & Alcohol Testing Program requirements.
