Location: Fort Wainwright
This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position:This position serves as Police Watch Commander and Police Duty Officer for the Fort Wainwright Directorate of Emergency Services, Law Enforcement Division. As the Watch Commander you are responsible for directing police patrols and coordinating the overall Law Enforcement Program.
Duties- Perform as a Supervisory Police Officer (Watch Commander) responsible for directing police patrols and coordinating law enforcement operations during assigned shift.
- Develop and review police reports, forms, and records for compliance with Army and local regulations.
- Synchronize emergency response of police assets and integrate community-oriented police philosophy into all law enforcement programs.
- Exercise arrest/apprehension authority consistent with federal, state, local laws and Army regulations and is required to carry a firearm in the performance of duties.
- Plan work to be accomplished by subordinates, set priorities, and prepare schedules for completion of work assignments.
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain clearance certification with the Alaska Public Safety Information Network (ASPIN), Public Safety Commission.
- This is a designated Mission Essential position.
- One-year supervisory probationary period may be required.
- This position is subject to the Lautenberg Amendment/Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968.
- Must comply with Drug Abuse Testing Program requirements.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
- Must wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other associated equipment. Must pass physical agility test requirements.
- Required to pass a pre-employment and periodic medical examination (physical, emotional and mental stability, etc.).
- Must pass physical agility test requirements.
- Must possess and maintain a valid stateside driver's license.
- Be qualified and certified in the use of chemical aerosol irritants, tear gas, and radar guns.
- State certification, if required, for radar and breathalyzer operations.
- Key Position- must not be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization without seriously impairing the capability of the agency.
- Required to meet all mandatory requirements of AR 190-56, The Army Civilian Police and Security Guard Program.
- Position requires employee to wear a uniform and/or protective clothing.
