Position: Lead Police Officer (Field Training Officer) with Security Clearance
Location: Wainwright

Duties
* Leads a team of civilians or military police officers engaged in patrol duties.
* Performs law enforcement work to maintain law and order, preserve the peace, protect life and civil rights, detect and investigate crimes, arrest or apprehend violators, and perform patrols within the jurisdiction of the military installation.
* Conducts investigative stops, questions, detains, and issues traffic citations as required. Monitors traffic surveys, traffic-signal observance, speed studies, passenger counts, etc. Sets up road blocks, traffic-control points, and directs traffic.
* Protects personnel, material, tactical military assets, and high value assets by executing daily RAM and supplemental anti-terrorism measures during increased force protection conditions.
* Operates the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) terminal in accordance with federal and state laws to transcribe data. Provides response to interpreted messages, (e.g., broadcasts).
* Responds to and investigates emergency calls, complaints and other calls for service. Reviews police reports, patrol reports and ongoing investigations to ensure complete/concise and factual information/reporting. Requirements Conditions of employment
* Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
* Incumbent must be able obtain and maintain a valid Tier 3 (Secret) security investigation.
* Successfully graduate from the United States Army Civilian Police Academy; or successfully graduate within 12 months of hire date; or is a current employee and is considered grandfathered IAW AR 190-56.
* Incumbent must be able to successfully pass training, certification and qualification requirements related to law enforcement work functions as prescribed by policy, regulations or statutes.
* Successfully pass a pre-employment and recurring medical evaluation.
* Successfully pass a Physical Agility Test (PAT) within 30 days of hire date and annually thereafter.
* Successfully pass a pre-employment and recurring mandatory drug testing. This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) and is covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program.
* The 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968 covers this position. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for this position.
* This position is designated as Mission Essential position during weather conditions or emergency conditions. During a crisis situation or inclement weather, the incumbent must continue to perform the duties until relieved by proper authority.
* Incumbent must possess a valid state driver's license and be able to obtain and maintain a government motor vehicle operator's license.
* Hours of work is subject to irregular and/or rotating shifts, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. Incumbent is required to work overtime as directed and is subject to recall for emergency overtime.
* Official Temporary Duty (TDY) up to 10% of the time may be required.
* Incumbent is subject to possible civil action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.
* Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain clearance certification with the Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN), Public Safety Commission, for access to and exposure to law enforcement sensitive information when applicable. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. One year of specialized experience which includes providing guidance related to law enforcement duties to other police officers; utilizing standard law enforcement policies or procedures; and reviewing law enforcement reports. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify.
