This position is located within the Department of the Interior, National Park Service, Wrangell-St. Elias National Park in Copper Center, AK. As a Cultural Anthropologist, this position provides professional staff assistance to management in the development, review, analysis, evaluation, and monitoring of programs in applied cultural anthropology/ethnography in the park or a related group of parks.
Major Duties- Oversees the Park Unit's subsistence program and researches issues of ethnographic importance to Native Alaskan communities such as hunting, fishing and gathering from park lands.
- Represents the superintendent when working with the public and other organizations / agencies on matters related to rural communities and ethnographic / subsistence resources.
- Identifies contemporary groups with traditional associations to park resources, establishes contacts and consults with them.
- Organizes and facilitates Subsistence Resource Commission meetings for park lands.
