Lead Public Safety Dispatcher

Duties

• Responsible for the receipt and effective evaluation of emergency calls; determining nature of call; prioritizing emergency and non-emergency calls; identify the level of response necessary to provide additional information to the responding units.
• Provides emergency medical dispatching (EMD) assistance to callers with medical emergencies using the local authority emergency medical dispatch system.
• Monitors status and availability of police, fire and medical units to assure an appropriate response is made.
• Ensures that the organization’s strategic plan, mission, vision and values are communicated to the team and integrated into the team’s strategies, goals, objectives, work plans and work products and services.

Conditions of employment

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• Incumbent is required to work (mission essential) regardless of weather conditions or base closure and to report to the duty station at the regularly scheduled time. The work is performed in a highly stressful, restricted office environment.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain (within 1 year of employment) certification in CPR;
  DoD Telecommunicator I/II;
  DoD HAZMAT Awareness; APSIN (Alaska Public Safety Information Network) Full User; and Emergency Medical Dispatch certifications.
• Temporary duty (TDY) travel is required up to 10% of the time.
• Must be able to work shifts, overtime, weekends, or holidays as required.
• This is a drug testing designated position. Must successfully complete a pre-appointment drug test, annually and/or randomly thereafter.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, Ameri Corps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience.

One year of specialized experience which includes providing emergency response dispatching of police, fire, and/or medical services to the public by answering emergency 911 calls and responding with appropriate personnel and equipment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
