Kotzebue, Alaska. Pharmacy Program – Full Time.

POSITION SUMMARY

Assists pharmacists with inventory and inspections, maintains records, processes orders, packages drugs, maintains pharmacy spaces in an orderly manner, and supervises Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacy Biller to ensure timely completion of tasks.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Identify all technician tasks and assignments and their completion frequency.
  • Assign technicians on daily, weekly and monthly tasks to ensure all tasks are completed in a timely manner.
  • Schedule technicians and pharmacy biller to ensure completion of all tasks.
  • Streamline the pharmacy workflow.
  • Be responsible for quality assurance and compliance to pharmacy regulations.
  • Perform other technician tasks as listed below.
  • On a regularly scheduled basis, inspect all locations where drugs are stored, check items for current dating and replenish drugs and supplies to par levels, and maintain inspection records.
  • Receive, prioritize, package and mail village clinic drug and pharmacy supply orders; communicate with village health aides for clarification or problems with orders.
  • Perform a variety of drug packaging and labeling dates.
  • Communicate with physicians, nurses, and other personnel regarding drug availability and dosage forms.
  • Perform regular inventories, prepare drug and supply orders, receive and unpack drug supplies, rotate inventory to remain current, remove outdated drugs and package them for return.
  • Maintain pharmacy and drug storage areas clean and orderly; clean utensils, glassware, counters and sinks as needed; maintain storage shelves orderly.
  • Review physician orders for intravenous solution additives, calculate and prepare additive drugs, materials, and labels required for admixtures.
  • Assist in the bulk as assigned.
  • As experience is obtained, identify correct auxiliary labels for each medication.
  • Perform and/or assume other job or work–related duties as assigned.
  • JOB QUALIFICATIONS – MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    High school diploma or equivalent. College-level coursework in chemistry or medical‑related disciplines preferred. Ability to make accurate measurements and conversions between English and metric systems. Experience in a clinical setting and familiarity with medical terminology required. Willingness to attend job‑related training and education programs. Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of healthcare professionals. Must be willing to be on call during declared disasters.

    Familiarity with JACHO requirements and documentation in patient files. Physical ability to lift up to 40 lbs., stand for prolonged periods. Familiarity with RPMS or equivalent used in the department. Must successfully pass the State of Alaska background check for licensing. Must have 2 years previous experience as a Pharmacy Technician or 2 years previous supervisory experience. Must be familiar with the current drug wholesale order system or equivalent.

    Alaska Pharmacy Technician License required.
